“I got in touch and don’t ask for details because you’re not getting them. I talk to him, he talks to me I bring it back to you. What he tells me now, is that these people are heavy into the occult. We’re talking shape shifting the whole nine. Now what he’s telling me is that the group in these parts are into some sick shit.”

“They have these hunting parties where they hunt girls like deer or some shit. And then there’s the human sacrifice…”

“Pops, what are you talking about? Is this a movie you saw or some shit?”

“Boy watch your mouth, I’m telling you what the man told me. Call Thorpe, for fuck sake, I told you he knows about this stuff.”

“We already touched base with him, he helped us out last summer.”

“No, you need him for more than that. You think he’s gonna just tell you shit? Put your cards on the table, show him your hand, he’ll show you his. You need everybody on this thing, because these fuckers are all over the place. Unless you need me to come out of retirement.”

“Thanks pop we got it.”

Yep, because his idea would be to kill everybody on the whole damn block and sort shit out later.

“Fine, we’ll get with Thorpe later, but we got a more pressing situation right now. Your Goddaughter is going off to college a year early and the fucks who sent her that email are still out there.”

“Not for fucking long they’re not.”

After that long day spent closed off in the office it was time to take a break. I had about an hour before I needed to go pick her up from school and I still hadn’t gone by the house yet to see what all the cleaners had done.

I hadn’t talked much, but I’d listened plenty and taken mental notes. They were doing this for Caitlin in a roundabout way so of course I was front and center. Once everyone left and it was just the usual crew, which meant the SEALs, Law, Creed and Jared, I told Mancini that the house was ready and he could go ahead and call Jace and the others in if he wanted to.

“We have to do some stuff over there first before you move in.”

“Huh? What stuff?”

“I don’t let my people live in unsecured houses kid. Lyon, you guys got anything else doing the rest of the day? I might need a hand.”

“What you need?”

“We need to secure his place before he moves in there. I’ve got everything in the car but the more hands we have the faster it’ll go. I don’t want the neighbors wondering what we’re doing there.”

“Got you, let me see if my wife needs anything and I’ll be right with you.”

“Same goes here, we haven’t seen the girls in a minute they tend to get jumpy when that happens. Davey you’re staying here to watch over the women.” Logan ordered.

My father in law looked at his watch. “Its’ almost time for you to go pick my kid up.”

“I know. I’ll head out in about a half an hour.” We all headed downstairs where babies were being fed, half the women had some kinda cloth over their chest hiding the fact that they were feeding and the other half were burping a kid.

I watched as these grown men who’d just been plotting bloodshed and mayhem jumped right in to lend a hand. “Kat, those cleaner fucks gone from over there yet?”

“Colton!” She pointed at the babies and he rolled his eyes. “I heard Cody swearing yesterday.”

“He didn’t hear it from me, check with your kids. Now answer the question.” She sighed and changed someone else’s baby to a different arm. “They’ve been gone, I already went over there to make sure everything was okay.”

“I know you left the house, I’m asking if they’re done.”

“Yes Mein Herr they’re long gone. You guys not having lunch?”

“We’ll take it with… Yes we’re having lunch.” He changed his mind because of the look she gave him and I couldn’t help grinning.

“What you laughing at kid?” The men trooped into the kitchen.

“Nothing!” Just the big bad biker brought to heel by a glare.

“Ah shit, she’s on that health shit again.”

“You said something Colton?” He jumped when she came in the kitchen behind him and rolled his eyes.

“Nope this looks good.” Now all the men were stifling their laughter.

“You’re having fried chicken and mashed potatoes tonight, that should satisfy your grease intake. Don’t forget to eat your salad, all of you.”

“Kat, you already got lettuce in these wrap things. The fuck is this wrapped in paper?”

“It’s some kinda seaweed kelp.” He started gagging and everyone lost it.

“It’s actually good for you.” Mancini ate his like he was at a gourmet restaurant and I only just noticed that he’d stocked his own bottled water because I’m sure they don’t sell that brand here, probably nowhere in the state. The others curled their lips at him but we ate our wraps all the same with pitchers of ginger lemonade. It wasn’t bad but Colton bitched the whole time we were sitting there. Colton, I don’t think I’ve ever thought of him by his given name before.
