She squeezed my arm hard. “Todd, her name’s not Susan I saw her face, that’s Leslie.” I looked back at the man who was now almost to the underground parking garage of the hotel. I went into fight mode but her safety came first so I took her to the car which was only a few cars down.
“Lock the doors and call your dad, do not get out of this car for anyone and don’t let anyone in. No fucking one but me or your dad.” I took off running hoping that the fact that the guy was carrying dead weight would’ve slowed him down enough for me to catch up.
I saw him under the glare of the parking garage’s lights. There were two men coming from the other side as well so he and the girl were in the middle. I yelled out to get the other guys’ attention since it didn’t look like they were with him. “Hey asshole let her go.”
The two guys looked up and saw what was going on. By this time I was gaining on the would be kidnapper who was looking around between me, and the guys. I kept moving towards him, adrenaline rushing; this is what I trained for.
He made a split second decision and decided that I was the greater threat so he threw the girl towards me, jumped over the back of a car and hopped into a truck. The two guys were still in shock and hadn’t moved. A lot happened at once in the next few seconds.
I heard bikes coming in hard, there was a squeal of tires behind me, and the guy headed in the opposite direction in his truck. I couldn’t go after him and leave the girl on the floor passed out and my thoughts were still on Caitlin sitting in the parking lot in the dark in a parked car. “Fuck!”
I heard heels on the concrete and looked up to see her rushing towards me where I was kneeling on the ground holding the girl’s head up. The squealing tires were her new Bugatti which was now parked haphazardly inside the entrance to the underground car park.
The two guys had come closer but still not too close. “Is she okay? Give her to me!” Caitie sat on the floor and pulled the girl’s head onto her lap. “Daddy’s on his way and…” Before she could get the words out six bikes came roaring in followed closely by two cars.
Doors slammed as her dad, Mancini, the Seals and the others jumped out of their trucks behind her Godfather and his crew who’d got here first on their bikes. Just then the girl stirred and tried to sit up. Instead she looked up at Caitlin, her body twisted in an odd way, seconds before she threw up all over my girl’s beautiful new dress.
“Did you get anything?” Colton asked as he looked down at the girl.
“Looks like our truck!” The two men finally came forward and started repeating what they’d seen. Mancini addressed them next after they wound down. “Did you guys get a plate number, make and model anything?”
“I’m sorry, it just all happened so fast.” The two of them looked to be in their sixties or thereabouts and this was probably the most excitement they’d had in ages. It wasn’t long before law enforcement showed up.
I answered their questions the best I could then they took statements from the two bystanders. “Get my kid outta here.” Her dad was pissed and hiding it very well.
“Yes sir, I mean yes Colton.”
“Do me a favor.” He said as the paramedics lifted the girl who’d passed out again off Caitie’s lap.
“Don’t let her mother see her like this.”
“Okay, I’ve got it.” He clapped my shoulder after I helped her up and turned to leave. “You did good, both of you.” He kissed her forehead and she walked away wordlessly. It took me all the way to the car to realize that she too was in some kind of shock.
I took the key from her after putting her in the passenger seat and strapping her in. I took her hand in mine as soon as I got into the driver’s seat and drove slowly to my house. She hadn’t said anything the whole way there.
I had to help her out of the car once we pulled into the garage and damn near had to carry her to the door. “Caitlin, look at me.” Her eyes were glassy and out of focus. “Let me help you out of this dress then I’ll make you something hot to drink.” Shit, she hasn’t eaten all day.
She didn’t help me remove the soiled dress, just stood still as I stripped her naked. When I moved to sit her somewhere while I tended to her dress she fell into my arms and burst into tears.
