“Greer, stop,” Dallas said, twisting his hands until he entwined their fingers. “There’s no one else I want. I would marry you today too—”
“Then marry me.” The cool November breeze and the sound of traffic zipping past just feet away faded as he stared at the love of his life. His world revolved around this man. Dallas gave Greer the strength of peace and the drive of personal purpose. The disruption of chaos that had always run rampant through his head had settled into a distant memory. He never wanted to live a single day without Dallas in his life.
“Greer.” Dallas lifted Greer’s knuckles to his lips and pressed a kiss there. “The guy reminded me of Donny. You never get jealous over any…”
“Dallas.” The calm Greer had grown to thrive within stared him straight in the eyes. His company’s current growth and the projects he personally developed were benefiting wildly from the way Dallas had centered Greer. Dallas could have no real understanding of what he made possible in Greer’s life. “I say this with all certainty. I’m ready to start our future. I’m so crazy in love with you. Marry me.”
He sensed a distancing happening, not physical but emotional. Dallas stepped into him and clutched his hands tighter. Silly words slipped from Dallas’s full lips. “Greer, you’re such a good guy. We haven’t even known each other a year.”
Greer took better control of their moment. He was serious. This had been their course from the very beginning. “We’re close to a year and we’ve been together every day for months and months. In gay years that’s like fifty years. Marry me.”
Confusion clouded Dallas’s face. Greer had to remind himself that uncertainty didn’t mean refusal. Greer stepped into Dallas, crowding him with determination. “I want to spend my life with you. I want what we have to last every day for the rest of our lives.”
Dallas released his hands, lifting a loving palm to Greer’s cheeks. The pad of his thumb left a sizzling trail over Greer’s lower lip. “We’re already doing that.”
His sweet guy was giving Greer an out—one he didn’t want at all. “I want you to be legally obligated to be there with me. I know you’ll take your vow seriously. I will too. I love you. Say yes.”
Dallas’s green gaze turned from perplexed to tender. His pouty lips relaxed into a smile. All his love’s telltale signs of giving in. “You know I’ll follow wherever you lead. I guess that means down the aisle.”
“I love you.” Greer captured Dallas’s mouth with his. Dallas opened for him, and Greer didn’t hesitate, his tongue searching Dallas’s, sealing their fate. The kiss was meant to be light, but Dallas wrapped a hand around Greer’s bicep, drawing him snugly against his body. The other arm anchored around his waist, exactly where Greer wanted to be.
A long loud, honk from a passing vehicle had Greer tearing from the sweet kiss. A guy hung from the window as he yelled, “Get a room!”
Greer turned his heated gaze to the car. “He just said yes!” he yelled as if the occupants of the speeding car could hear him.
Dallas’s hand came to Greer’s jaw, turning him back. “Let’s go home. Then ask me again there so we don’t have to have our special place be out here on the street.”
“I can do that.” Greer slid under Dallas’s arm, letting his warmth guide him all the way home.
Chapter 38
Warm lips pressed against Dallas’s temple, drawing him from a deep, sound sleep. He always slept better when Greer was home. Maybe because Greer had a gentle touch when turning Dallas to his belly when he got too loud. He smiled and started to roll to his stomach only to find he was already there. He opened his eyes to see Greer sitting on the edge of the bed.
“Time to wake up, handsome.”
Dallas closed his lids and rolled to his back, throwing his arm over his eyes. Why were the overhead lights on?
“The god-awful sounds that come from you…”
A giant jaw cracking yawn made it hard to say, “Ha. I’m awake. What time is it?”
“Seven fifteen.”
Dallas’s eyes popped open, and he turned his head to see the sun peeking from underneath the curtains. Greer’s long-sleeve knit-covered arm came around Dallas’s waist and he gave a hip bump to scoot Dallas’s further over.
Greer’s natural state of gorgeousness was set off by the casual look that didn’t really feel relaxed. The amber knit pullover matched the color of his eyes. His hair had the perfect swoosh and his arm dangled with the leather strap bracelets Dallas had purchased for him on one of their overnight trips to a beach cleanup. As pretty as his guy was, they were at the beginning of a workweek. Greer’s work uniform was always a tailored suit and silk tie.
