See You Again (Wishful 8) - Page 52

“I don’t understand. When exactly did you…um…elope?” Cam asked.

“The weekend before your wedding. We waited thirty years and thought that was quite long enough but the least we could do was hold off until after your wedding to announce it. Of course, I’d have done it more subtly, but somebody got ahold of the video and, well…I’m guessing you’ve seen it.”

Cam arched a brow. “So…you’re okay with that?”

Her lips curved in wry amusement. “Well, nobody can ever accuse me of being stodgy and boring, now can they?”

Her son remained skeptical. “And…you’re happy?”

The eyes she turned on Trey were warm. “This time I made the right choice.”

His heart just squeezed. She’d chosen him. At long last, she’d chosen him.

Throat thick with emotion, Trey sat on the opposite side of the desk, sliding an arm around her shoulders and pressing his brow to hers. “I’ll take care of her,” he promised. “And I’ll love her ’til the day I die.”

On a sigh, Sandy wrapped her arms around him, and his world righted itself again.

Norah sniffed. “Awww. I’m so happy for y’all.”

“I owe you my thanks. If not for you, I’d never have come back to Wishful.”

“We’ll chalk it up to the happy circularity of Fate,” she said.

“You hate the idea of Fate,” Cam pointed out.

“Maybe I’m changing my mind.” She gave her husband a smacking kiss. “We’re going to let y’all go. See you in two weeks!”

“Enjoy St. John’s.” Sandy disconnected.

“You told them. You told everybody.”

“I did.”

The phone in Trey’s pocket buzzed. Louis with an update on the take down? He slipped it out. “From Tess. ‘Dad. Call me.’ Looks like it’s my turn to spread the good news.”

“Do you want to do that on your own, or should we do that together?”

He set the phone aside and scooped her up, hauling her across the desk and into his lap. “I think we should do everything together. Forever.”

“I’m good with that.” She looped her arms around him. “Maybe we could start with a proper honeymoon?”

Oh yeah, he was all over that. He wondered how long she could get off work. “Where do you want to go?”

Sandy considered for a moment. “I’ve always wanted to see Paris.”

“Then you, Mrs. Peyton, shall have the City of Lights. And anything else your heart desires.”

Sandy lifted her mouth to his. “I just need you.”

And that, Trey decided, as he kissed his wife, made him the richest man in the world.

A Note From Kait
