“Alright, we’ll watch another movie then get ready for bed.” I kiss the top of her head, the scent of her shampoo clinging to my senses, rich and fruity, a blend of berries, with a touch of lemon.
We settle on another action movie. Earlier, I offered Lily the remote so she could pick out something. It took her a few minutes before she pulled up a Heath Ledger movie, one where he didn’t play the good guy. This time, she picks out something a little lighter but still with the same actor, giving me a clue that she must like him or something.
“Please don’t be upset if I fall asleep on you. If I do, just leave me on the couch, okay?” she murmurs into my chest. I don’t even bother responding because if she does in fact do just that, I’ll pick her up, carry her to bed, and climb in beside her.
“Whatever you say, Lily, whatever you say,” I murmur before placing the remote on the couch beside me, grabbing the blanket without jostling her too much, knowing there will be a chill in the night air. I place it on top of her, not really needing it for myself. I’m always warm. It’s probably why I rarely use the heat during the winter, and in the summer, I kick the thermostat down as much as possible without messing with the air conditioner.
My hand glides through her silky hair. She hums when I massage the base of her neck, wanting her to relax in the best way possible. She shouldn’t be going through this much of an upheaval. Lily has enough to contend with, a business owner who’s successful in every way imaginable, tough as nails, and knows what she wants. I continue working her muscles until she’s lax, in a sleep-like state. My head tilts back, eyes closing as I bask in the presence of the woman before me and thank my lucky fucking stars she’s happy this isn’t pretend. The only thing we need to work on now, well, besides us, is this Chad character. Something tells me he won’t go away quietly. Which means I’ll be meeting with Graham, the Sheriff of Cherry Falls, if shit doesn’t get taken care of, and soon.
“Come on, pretty girl,” I murmur. Lily doesn’t respond, and if she thinks for one damn second I’m going to let her sleep on the couch, she’s lost her damn mind. I manage to pick her up without waking her, that damn skirt of hers showing off way more thigh than should be allowed. It has me imagining stripping it off her body, letting me see what else she has hidden beneath it. When my hands were on her ass earlier, it was plain as day she was wearing a thong, and my poor fucking cock got the brunt of it.
“Beau,” she purrs softly but settles once I’m moving down the hallway into my bedroom. I’d like to say I’ll be a gentleman and take the couch or the spare bedroom, but that won’t be happening. My body will be curled up right next to hers, all night long.
Chapter Ten
Lily
I wake up. The sun is streaming through the blinds even though they’re closed. Toto, you are not home is my first thought because the bed beneath my body feels like lying in a lap of luxury. The only thing missing is the man who clearly put me in his bed last night. And I hate that I missed remembering anything after Beau placed a blanket on top of me, his body radiating warmth, a movie playing in the background, and his hands on me. It lulled me to sleep.
I sit up in bed, realizing I’m still in my clothes. My tank top is thankfully still in place, unlike some of the shirts I wear to bed at my house. I’ll wake up, and I kid you not, a boob will be out of my shirt, saying hello to the world. I don’t hear Beau in the house as I slide out of the bed, find the bathroom, and take care of business. I find a flannel shirt of Beau’s lying on the bench at the foot of the bed, slide it on, relishing the smell that’s surrounding me, and go find him.
“Beau,” I call out to the hallway as I walk towards the kitchen and living room, still not finding him.
“Out here, honey,” I hear him say, not sure where he is until I really look. The front door is open; he even has the screen door open.
“Good morning,” I say as I walk towards him. He’s in a rocking chair, a cup of coffee in his hand. I’m assuming it’s black because that’s how he usually drinks it.
“Morning. Did you sleep well?” He’s in a pair of jeans, bare chested, and nothing on his feet. Beau has never looked better in my eyes.
