223 True Love Lane: A Cherry Falls Romance - Page 20

“You say that like it’s a bad thing,” I mutter.

“It’s not, but having a boner with my friend over as we tell him about Chad isn’t my idea of a good time.” He takes another step back, running his hand down his face. My jets are cooled now, everything is back on the front burner, so I slide off the counter and tell Beau, “Go grab Graham. I’ll make the coffee and bring it to the kitchen table. I’m assuming he’s like you and takes his black?”

“Yeah, let’s get this shit done and out of the way, then you can meet me in our bed, naked, with the sheets sliding across your skin.” His voice is husky and deep.

“I’ll take you up on that.” I grin at him, then he’s off. Opening and closing the door softly. I put the mugs of coffee on the kitchen counter and then find my bag, pulling out my laptop and the paperwork I’ve kept so Graham will have everything he needs.

I’m walking back towards the kitchen when they come in. Graham’s a good-looking guy, tall, in his Sheriff’s uniform, hat in his hand, a soft smile on his face, but he doesn’t hold a candle to Beau. He never could, not for me at least.

“Lily, hate like hell this is how we’re meeting, but I guess there’s no time like the present.” Graham holds his hand out for me to shake.

“Hey, it’s okay. It probably should have happened well before now. I have all the papers I kept, and then there are records on my laptop I worked on before you got here.” I put everything within his reach as Beau and I go over a few things that have happened since we’ve been together.

“This will work. Can you email all of this to my work email? I’ll print it out that way. Now, here comes the hard part, and I know you don’t want to talk about it, but I need to hear it. From what Beau has mentioned, you’ll definitely be able to get a restraining order against him, which I’m proposing Beau should do as well. This way, nothing backfires, and Chad can’t come back next week without us having everything ready to go.”

“Yeah, good luck getting this guy on board.” My hand moves to his chest, feeling his heartbeat beneath it.

“Hmph,” he grunts, causing us all to laugh. The big bad alpha male bar owner, with tattoos running up both his arms and his chest needing a restraining order against Chad would be laughable, except who knows what he’s capable of?

I get down to brass tacks, telling him about meeting on the dating website, how we only went out on a few lunch dates, then he’d randomly appear at the shop, where I’d hide out in the back until he left, after repeatedly telling him it wasn’t in the cards for us to date. I just didn’t like him. I told Graham how I could have sworn someone was watching me. Then, of course, we talk about tonight. The proof of the text messages is on my phone that Graham is looking through. Pen and pad right beside him, he’s taking notes as I talk, and I’m not sure how he’s able to remember everything.

“Alright, with everything you’ve told me and what Beau has said, I’d definitely suggest coming to the station tomorrow. I know it’s late, so I’ll get out of your hair. Give me a call tomorrow afternoon while I get everything ready, and then it’ll be an in and out for you guys.” Graham grabs everything he needs, leaving my phone and laptop.

“Thanks, Graham.” Beau shakes his hand, pulling him in for that man hug guys do.

“Thank you again. I’m sorry we had to bother you so late at night.” I do the same to him, ignoring how Beau has his arms planted across his chest.

“No problem.”

“I’m going to walk him out, then I’ll shut everything down. Go on to bed, honey. I’ll be right behind you,” Beau murmurs in my ear while Graham heads for the door, his words letting on that we’ll be doing a whole lot more than sleeping.

“Okay.” I move my head, kiss the underside of his jaw, then scoot away. I have a man to get naked for, and after the night we’ve had, I think we both need something to look forward to.

Chapter Nineteen

Beau

It wasn’t hard to get rid of Graham. We didn’t even talk. I’m not sure if he knew Lily and I needed time alone, or if he was done and ready to go home himself. Once he left, it didn’t take me long to close the house down, turning off the coffee pot, then the lights. Everything else could be left for tomorrow. My only goal is getting to my woman.
