The Rule Breaker - Page 26

"Are you like that?"

I shake my head. "Always make sure a woman comes first."

"Oh." Her cheeks flush.

"It's a responsibility."

"Huh?"

"The size. With great power—"

"Oh my god." Her eyes blink open as she laughs. "You're pulling out the Spider-Man quote to talk about your dick?"

"It's true."

Her laugh gets louder. "That's… oh my god." She turns to the counter. Presses her palms into the surface. "I'm glad you think of it like that."

You'll be glad when you sit on my cock. "Don't you wish Sean had thought about it like that?"

"Kind of, actually. It just sounds…" She laughs so hard her tits shake. "It does sound ridiculous."

I pick up her cup. Shake it to check the level. Empty. "Want another?"

"Maybe. We should probably get going…" She motions to the stairs. "I do need stuff. For the spare room."

"You could take Daisy's."

She looks at me of course I couldn't.

It's like she's saying of course, I can't sleep where your sister sleeps. You wouldn't want to fuck me in her bed.

But that's in my head.

There's no way she'd go there.

Is there?

There's nothing like agony on a douchebag's face.

It's the best thing I've felt in ages.

I help Luna without complaint. I take measurements, debate color schemes, test couch firmness, roll chairs.

Then Sean sends her a nice to see you/stay in touch/I'm still thinking about you sucking off your boyfriend. It's going to be the go-to image in my spank bank for the next three months—

Okay, all it says is it was great to see you & your new man. Hope I'll see you at Patrick's b-day party. Stay in touch.

But I don't even care that I'm going to have to see this asshole again—

Or that my coworkers' booze-soaked birthday party is coming to test my resolve.

Those are problems for later.

For now, I'm good.

Luna laughs as she slips her cell into her back pocket. She plops on a red armchair. Spreads out wide. Then sits up straight, pulls her legs onto the cushion and folds them over each other.

She looks up at me. "You think?"

"For the office?"

She nods. "I want something bold."

"It's not quite I love dick red, but it's nice."

Her cheeks flame. "That isn't a thing."

"You think I don't know?"

"You'd have to be with hundreds of women for an accurate sample size. And you'd have to isolate other variables. Maybe it's the type of women you're attracted to."

"Maybe it's just me."

She laughs. "Yes, they see your dick and they can't help themselves."

"Didn't consider that possibility."

She shakes her head you're ridiculous. Runs her fingers over the armchair. "I like it. But I don't know if I love it."

"Do you need to love it?"

"Maybe." She looks around the room. A dozen chairs on wheels on the right. Armchairs and loveseats in our section on the left. "I need to not be around Allison."

"And the armchair is going to do it?"

"I just… I want it to feel like my room."

"How long do you want to stay?"

Her eyes meet mine. "I don't know. I try not to think about it. They'll probably sell the house."

"They might." That might be better too. If they split the money instead of arguing over the sentimental value.

Sentimental value gets ugly fast.

"Is that what you want?" I ask.

"I want to go back in time and keep my mom from having an affair." Luna frowns. "But I can't do that, so… I want a nice room, where I can study and call Daisy and watch teen soaps on Skype and not hear Allison and her new girltoy."

"Do you need an armchair for that?"

"Maybe."

"The red suits you." My eyes flit to her lips.

She notices immediately. "Would you take the chair? If I leave. When I leave."

I shake my head. "It will be Gabe's." And who knows what he'll do with it.

"No. It will be Gabe's. And I don't give a fuck what he does with it."

She motions to the armchair next to hers. It's broad with cognac leather. Like something in front of a fireplace on a British TV show.

I sit. Fold one leg over the other. Just barely turn toward her. We're almost parallel. But not quite.

"Are you going to leave?" Her voice is soft. A plea, but I'm not sure what she's asking. "Soon?"

"No. It's easier with you here. More space."

She half-smiles. "You'll be okay? Staying?"

"For a while. I did promise Daisy. I can save a lot more if I wait until next year. Find a better place."

"You must have a lot saved. You've been there awhile."

"I do," I say.

"How much?"

"See. Rude." I almost smile. "Always so fucking rude."

"No, if I was rude I'd say something like… hmm, kinda defensive there. It must not be very much."

I flip her off.

She smiles, almost all the way back to her usual self. "Okay, tell me this." She holds up her hand. "How many figures." She holds up three fingers.
