uessing everything is just one of my many flaws.” I rub my belly, I just want to enjoy today with my best friend.
“Have you picked names?” I go for a subject change.
“Yes, we finally agreed on some!” She laughs, accepting my question and moving on and for that I’m thankful.
“Well?”
“We’re thinking Mason Troy and Charlotte Lynn.” Those two middle names are mine and Kingston’s. My heart feels tight in my chest, like it may burst.
“Shay,” I whisper, the hormonal induced tears finding their sneaky way out of my eyes. I wipe them away quickly.
“I love you, Lana. I wanted Charlotte to have your middle name because you are strong, beautiful, independent, a survivor, you know, all things I hope Charlotte will be.”
“You were a big part of me being a survivor.”
“No, I was just there to help you realize it, baby. Through every...”
“Ultimate fall,” we finish in unison, gaining funny looks from the two technicians painting our toes. We chuckle together and I lock this moment away in my heart forever, making it one of my best memories to date.
“Hey baby, how was the spa?” Kingston’s voice sounds smooth when he answers the phone on the third ring.
“It was amazing. Thank you for doing that for me, it was really sweet,” I give praise.
“I wanted you to relax. I know house hunting has been insane the past couple weeks. You needed it.”
“Ugh, house hunting. Do we have to go back to reality?” I’m over house hunting. If I’m being honest the mere thought of looking at another place has me near postal.
“I know, we don’t have any lined up this weekend with our agent so we are free until Monday.”
“Good, because I need to regroup or I may set fire to all the houses.” I roll my eyes looking out the window, Shayla chuckling next to me.
“Easy woman, do I need to relax you some more?” His voice goes dark, melting my insides. I’m more than ready to be calmed down by Kingston, it’s been a week since we last had sex. Life and work tending to get in the way, that and my pregnancy has not been going very well.
“I’m here with your sister. Can we talk about this when I get home?” I clear my throat, glancing over, glad Shayla is concentrated on the road. Her face is passive, she has no idea what we’re talking about.
“Come to my place, I’ll order pizza.”
“Okay, I will be there soon.”
“Love you, Queen.” I smirk, blushing like it’s my first time saying I love you.
“Love you, King.” He hangs up and I keep the phone to my ear a moment longer, wishing he was still there whispering in my ear. Now I can’t wait to get home.
“You love birds are my favorite.” Shayla laughs and I join in, before she turns up the music. We have a little dance and karaoke party before we pull up to her house and I drive home.
“No, dad she has no idea.” I hold the phone to my ear by my lifted shoulder as I sign for the pizza.
“When will the movers be done?” he asks.
“I boxed up all her important shit today while she was shopping and at the spa with Shayla, then the movers took that and all her clothes. I ordered us a bigger bed and that gets delivered tomorrow. I’ll surprise her with it.”
“Damn son. I’m proud of you, bud. She’ll love it.” I smirk, feeling well accomplished. Last week Lana saw our dream home and I knew she wanted it. However, I wanted it to be a surprise, so I told her the house had been bought right after we left before we could make an offer. She believed it but I was the one who really made the offer.
“Even better, I have her mom and dad flying in tomorrow to help set up the place. Jeff and I will do all the heavy shit then Lana and Becky can do all that girly decorating stuff.”
“Wow, that’s big of you—inviting Jeff.” I smirk knowingly, reaching in the cupboards to get some plates.
“Yeah, trust me, I debated just bringing Becky, then having you and Trey help me, but I don’t want to give him a reason to hate me even more.”
