Ryan laced his fingers with hers. “How about some music?”
She smiled. He’d been trying to narrow down the options for their first dance. Every day he hit her with a new choice, each song a translation of his feelings for her. “Okay.”
Holding onto her hand, he walked her to the wall and slipped a dollar into the jukebox. A quick beat of drums started, and the humming voices of The Beach Boys followed. Ryan gave her a twirl and pulled her to his chest.
“Well, it’s been building up inside of me for oh I don’t know how long…” His off-key voice peeled into her ear with terrible pitch and she squinted. “Don’t worry, baby… Everything will turn out all right…”
Cupping her hand to his, she moved across the floor with him, never doubting for a moment that as long as he held her hand everything would turn out fine.
Faces around the bar swirled as she laughed and clung to him, savoring this temporary moment and appreciating its value all the more because she knew life was fleeting and impermanent, but true love could outlast a lifetime.
