“No.”

I narrow my eyes. “What’s going on?”

“I’m not going,” Dane says simply. “I couldn’t bear to be away from you that long. So, I promoted Bruce and I’m sending him instead.”

Tears start to fall in earnest as emotion swells in my chest. For a few seconds, I’m too shocked to move. Then I fly across the room and wrap my arms around Dane’s neck and smothering his face in kisses. Dane growls into my mouth and I shiver as I feel his cock stiffen against my thighs.

“Ahem.” Bruce clears his throat. It takes massive effort, but I tear myself away from Dane long enough to turn to him.

“Sorry,” I mumble, blushing hotly.

“No, it’s just that there’s someone at the door,” Bruce says politely. I can tell he’s feeling as awkward as I am.

“Who is it?” I ask. Really? A second visitor so early in the morning? But my man ignores me. He steps forward and opens the door. Hanson is standing there in his uniform, stoic as usual.

“Sir, are you ready to leave?” Hanson asks.

“Almost,” Dane replies. Then he turns to me. “Go get dressed, baby girl. We’re going out.”

“For breakfast?” I ask hopefully.

/> Dane laughs indulgently. “Go get dressed,” he repeats.

Darting into the bedroom, I gasp. Marcie has laid out one of my new dresses from yesterday on the bed, and there’s a brand-new set of fancy luggage too. Peeking inside, I squeal happily when I realize they’re filled with my stuff.

After I get dressed, Hanson carries the luggage to the car and Dane and I follow. He still won’t tell me where we’re going, and I’m starting to get impatient. When Hanson stops the Town Car at a private airport, my stomach twists nervously.

“Why won’t you just tell me where we’re going?” I ask.

Dane laughs again. “You’ll see. Come on.”

Feeling more confused than ever, I follow my man aboard a private plane. To my shock, it’s filled with a huge buffet of all of my favorite foods. There’s even champagne and orange juice for mimosas!

“What is this?” I ask slowly. “What’s going on?”

Dane drops down to one knee and pulls a red leather jewelry box from his pocket. I gasp in surprise as he opens it to reveal a huge marquise diamond solitaire set in rose gold.

“Allie, I love you. You’re the only woman I’ve ever loved, and I can’t live without you. This past year has been the only happy year of my life, all because of you.”

Tears come to my eyes and I cover my mouth to keep from crying out in shock.

“Will you make me the happiest man on earth and agree to be my wife?”

A tear runs down my cheek. I’m too happy to speak – all I can do is nod. Dane leaps up and sweeps me into a giant embrace.

“I’m glad you accepted,” Dane says huskily. He slides the ring onto my finger and I look down to admire the sparkly diamond. “Because otherwise, the vacation would have been awkward.”

My head is spinning and I feel faint. Clinging on to Dane, I look into his deep blue eyes.

“What?” I ask dumbly. “What are you talking about?”

Dane winks. “As part of hiring Bruce, I made a deal with the board of Lockdown. I’m going to be taking two months of vacation every year. And this three weeks with you in Fiji is just the start.”

I blink in shock. “You’re kidding,” I say. “B-but what about finals?” is my stammer.

Dane waves a dismissive hand in the air. “You forget that I’m on the board of trustees at Tate. They made an exception.” He laughs indulgently. “It only took the promise of a new library.”

Squealing with happiness, I throw my arms around him. “I can’t wait to marry you,” I whisper fiercely into my fiancé’s ear. “I love you so much!”
