Brylee grabbed on to the desk in front of her when Gage stood her up. “I think that’s my cue to leave you two ladies to talk.”
Brylee sat down with the phone against her ear and watched Gage leave the room. She didn’t understand why she felt so sad and lonely when he was just in the other room.
“Brylee!”
“I’m sorry. Gage left us to talk.”
“Now, tell me everything.”
Brylee told her about Gage going to the place she worked the night before and taking her out of there. He even brought in some friends of his who were officers to help. They talked about her roommates and what they had done.”
“Oh, wow. Are you doing okay?”
“Yes. Gage was there with me the whole time. I feel so safe with him.”
“I know how you feel. I’ve never felt as safe as I do with Darian. I hate being away from him. It’s like a part of me is missing.”
Brylee slumped back into the chair. “I just felt that way when Gage left the room.”
Larkin giggled. “You really like him?”
“It feels more than like. Stronger somehow,” Brylee told her.
“I am so glad you two like each other. Daddy told me that Gage is a really good guy and that he’d take very good care of you.”
Brylee’s stomach twisted. “What will I be able to give him? It doesn’t seem fair.”
“I get that. I felt that way, too. But, daddy told me once that giving myself to him is the best gift he could ever get. He’s happier because of me.”
“So, I’ll just have to do everything I can to make Gage happy.”
“I think you being with him is enough. You’re so beautiful and sweet.”
“So are you,” Brylee said.
“That’s because we’re twins, remember?”
Brylee laughed. When they were young, they decided on a day for their birthdays because no one really knew when they were, and they agreed on the same day because they were twins even though they looked nothing alike.
“Of course.”
Brylee heard something in the background on Larkin’s end.
“Brylee, daddy says it’s dinner time, so I have to go, but he said we could talk tomorrow.”
“Okay. I might have a lot of questions to ask.”
“I’ll do my best to answer them. Good night.”
“Good night. Oh, next time tell Darian if you’re playing hide-n-seek,” Brylee said and then giggled.
Larkin huffed out a breath. “Yeah, I got a few smacks on the butt for that. He got really scared when he couldn’t find me.”
“I think that’s sweet.”
Larkin snorted. “The spanking wasn’t sweet.”
“But you probably deserved it, right?”
