“Shh…”

Kurt scooped me up into his arms, and I held him to me like my life depended on it, knowing it might be the last time.

His lips pressed against the top of my head. “I was worried sick. Edge called me as soon as you left. Said something was wrong. You left your phone. It wasn’t until you used the company credit card that I was able to find you.”

I burst into tears. “I’m pregnant.”

“I know.”

Pulling back, I searched his eyes. “What? How? I just found out. And I haven’t told anyone.”

“You left the tests on the counter in your bathroom.”

The tests. I forgot about all the tests. More tears came. “I have not missed a shot. I swear.”

“I know. And we used condoms.”

I held him to me. “I don’t know how this happened.”

“I’m pretty sure it was one of the times we had sex.”

Hitting his shoulder, I felt a little of the weight lift from my chest. “You know what I mean.”

“I know.”

“We aren’t ready for this.”

“Probably not.” His tone dropped, but otherwise his voice remained steady.

Raising my head, I asked, “How are you so calm?”

“I’m freaked out as fuck. But, honestly, I was more scared that something had happened to you. I have you safe in my arms. We’ll deal with this together.”

I stiffened and wiped the tears from my eyes. “You have the benefit tonight.”

He kissed my forehead and said, “I let them know I wouldn’t be there. The guys will go. Sawyer, I’m not leaving you to deal with this on your own.”

I burst into tears all over again. Yes, I definitely had the more emotional symptom on the checklist now. “I have done this all wrong. And if I do this wrong…I’m going to be the worst mother ever.”

He swallowed hard. “Are you saying you want to give the baby away?”

Give the baby away? I hadn’t thought about that. But I knew the answer deep in my bones. That connection I’d felt in the car was still there. “No, I won’t give our baby away. I can’t. But I don’t expect anything from you. I don’t want you to think I’ve ruined your life. You said you didn’t want kids.”

Taking me by the shoulders, Kurt put a little space between us so I could see the seriousness in his face. “I’m going to be part of my child’s life. I will be there for you and the baby. It’s not what either of us had planned, but we’ll find our way.”

I nodded and expelled a breath of relief. “I’m sorry I scared you.”

“Don’t do it again. I feel like I died a thousand times today looking for you. We kept scouring social media. The one time I needed those bastards to take a picture—nothing.”

“I’m so sorry.”

He kissed me gently. “None of that matters. I have you. You’re safe. The baby is safe. Just, please, don’t do it again.”

“I won’t.” I took a deep breath. “In case you weren’t sure, the baby is yours. I hadn’t slept with anyone for a long time before November. But if you want a DNA test done, we can. I understand.”

“I never doubted it.”

He believes me. Wrapping my arms around him, I murmured into his neck, “I’m scared, Kurt. Like really scared.”
