Ethan laughs.
Violet blushes.
No one doubts that Joel is actually bringing them a housewarming present of sex toys.
Kit gives me a long once over. His dark eyes fix on my chest—my low cut dress is particularly flattering—then they're on mine.
He nods hello then follows Ethan into the kitchen.
I want to follow Kit. I want to throw my arms around him and plant a deep, slow kiss on his lips.
But I can't do that yet. Not as long as this is a secre
t.
In the kitchen, the apple cider bottle opens. Someone is pouring it into glasses. That must be Ethan. He's laughing.
He steps into the main room with two glasses of apple cider. He hands one to me.
Ethan studies my expression. "What happened, Pipes? You look like you saw a ghost."
"Uh, just thinking." I can't say this here or now. It's his party. I can't hijack his party.
"Want to share what you're thinking?" Ethan looks to Violet. "Am I missing something?"
"Just a lot on my mind," I say.
"A lot being..." Ethan takes a sip of his drink.
Violet jumps in. "Piper officially decided to major in drama. And to pursue acting." Violet winks at me. "She was telling me earlier."
That's true. Sort of. Violet knows what I'm thinking. She knows it's eating me up keeping this from Ethan.
But it's not like I can blame anyone but myself.
"She's really good." Violet slides her arm around me. "I was listening to her practice earlier." She looks to Ethan. "I guess being a performer is just Strong genetics."
"You guess that?" Ethan takes her hand and pulls her into a hug. "Shouldn't you know what is or isn't genetics?"
"There haven't been any long-term studies." She runs her fingers through her hair. "I have to guess."
He smiles as he presses his lips to hers.
Kit looks to me. He raises a brow and mouths you okay?
I nod. I'm okay. I'm great, actually. Just worried.
He pulls out his phone and taps a message.
He's texting me.
I pull out my phone to check.
Kit: You want to talk?
I look back to him and motion to Ethan and Violet's office.
Kit raises a brow.
