I shrug my shoulders. “Who knows? You forgot to bring our rings to our wedding, so it’s definitely possible.”
He rolls his eyes, a soft groan slipping between his lips. “You’re never going to let me live that down, are you?”
“No,” I laugh, allowing him to lead me up the beautiful path to our front door. “It’s the highlight of our whole relationship so far. I don’t think you’ll ever be able to top it.”
Thorne shakes his head as he lets out a loud huff. We finally reach the door, and he pulls the keys from his pocket before pinching them between his fingers and holding them up to me. “Do you want to do the honors?”
My eyes widen with excitement as I take the keys from his hand. “Hell yeah, I do,” I squeal. Shoving the key into the lock, I fiddle around trying to figure out how to open the door, wondering why it isn’t as simple as turning the stupid key.
I finally get it unlocked, and as I turn the handle and open the door, my whole world falls right into place before my eyes. “It’s perfect,” I whisper, looking around in awe at the high ceilings and the modern designs, with the dark floorboards that I’ve always dreamed about.
Never in a million years did I think that I’d be lucky enough to have a home like this, but here we are, and it’s all thanks to my incredible husband. I don’t deserve him. He’s far too good for me, yet, somehow, he decided that I was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.
Thorne takes my hand and sends the most dazzling smile my way as he pulls me deeper into our home. His thumb rubs back and forth over the top of my hand. “Come on,” he tells me. “Let me give you the grand tour.”
A wide smile spreads across my face. I’d like nothing more than to explore every inch of this place. I feel like a kid in a candy store with absolutely everything she’s ever wanted.
We walk past a formal living room that leads us through to the formal dining area, and I run my fingers along the smooth edges of a table fit for royalty. I want to stop and dream about the family we'll soon have to fill these beautiful seats, but Thorne guides me on with a knowing smile.
He leads me into a theater room next, complete with blackout shutters, dark paint, and built-in theater chairs that span the whole back row, only to have a second row on a dropped level in front.
“Holy shit,” I gasp, imagining the many nights that I’ll spend here watching reruns of ‘Gossip Girl’ with a bowl of popcorn and drooling over the thought of a Chuck Bass and Nate Archibald threesome.
We move through to the main part of the lower level and I take in the grand kitchen and the incredible water feature that separates the kitchen from the living space. “Are you kidding me?” I say in disbelief. “Is this place even real? When do we get to move in?”
“Whenever you’re ready,” he tells me. “The paperwork was all finalized yesterday.”
A tear rolls down my cheek as I step into him, curling my arms around him and burying my face into his wide chest. “Thank you,” I murmur. “This home … it’s seriously a dream come true. I never would have been able to have something like this if it wasn’t for you.”
“What do I tell you every night before we go to bed?” he questions, his hand roaming up and down my back. “You deserve the world, and I promised that I was going to give it to you.”
“I don’t think you will ever understand just how much I love you,” I tell him, allowing the emotions to overwhelm me as I pull back and meet his loving stare.
“Trust me,” he says, that usual cocky grin of his making another appearance. “I know exactly what you’re talking about. I felt it first, remember?”
I roll my eyes. I may never let him live down forgetting the rings at our wedding, but he’ll never stop reminding me that he fell for me first, and while I love him with every little piece of me, it doesn’t stop me from wanting to sucker-punch him right in the gut.
Thorne takes my hand and pulls me toward the grand staircase. “Come on, I want to show you our bedroom and the bathroom.”
He practically drags me up the stairs as his excitement takes over, and as we reach the top, I realize that maybe it’s time to hit the gym. We walk around to the main bedroom, and I look on in awe, hardly getting a proper chance to take it all in before he’s dragging me back to the massive bathroom and pointing out every single little feature that he had put into the design.
