“Serena suggested I submit one of my photos anonymously to a competition, to see how I do without the weight of my name attached to it.”

“Good idea.”

“I’m going to go do that right now. Smith’s not the only one who has something to prove to himself.” He stood up. “Catch you later, dude.”

“Yeah, later.” I waved him off too.

We might have found a woman to settle down with, but settled we weren’t.

I awoke to sunlight streaming through the windows and a gentle breeze coming in through the open balcony doors. Turning on my side to face the ocean view, I stretched my body out underneath the covers. I still ached but at least I felt like I might be able to get up now.

“Hey, sleepyhead.” I flipped myself around to face the other direction and found Jayden sat in a chair at the side of me, a book on his lap.

“Morning.” I answered, smiling.

“No morning about it, Sleeping Beauty. It’s three o’clock in the afternoon.”

“It’s what?” I shot up, leaning against the headboard as a wave of dizziness came over me, making me clutch my head.

“Steady there, lover.” Jayden’s eyes looked at me in concern before his gaze dropped to my uncovered breasts and I saw the lust fill his gaze. Standing, he fetched my robe and handed it to me. “You’d better cover up before I exhaust you all over again.”

I pushed a hand through my hair, pushing it back off my face. “I can’t believe I slept that long.”

“It’s the feeding. We’re not taking much but there are four lots of vamp venom entering your system making you feel drowsy and sated. Plus you’re satisfying the needs of four men. There’s no wonder you’re exhausted.”

I sighed. “This turning can’t come soon enough. I’m nervous, but I need to be at the other side of it. Then we can get on with our lives. I can’t keep sleeping half of mine away.”

“Well, I suggest you take it easy today: eat, drink, relax, maybe read a little. Then get packed ready to go to the clinic in the morning.

“Yeah, sounds like a plan.”

“Can I get you some breakfast?”

My stomach rumbled at his words. “God, yes. The works please. Pancakes, bacon, maple syrup. OJ, and lots and lots of coffee.”

“Okay, you take your time and grab a shower and I’ll bring you breakfast in bed.”

I smiled. “You spoil me.”

“You’re worth it.” Jayden grinned. Then he left the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

The truth was I was petrified about the turning. Just a few weeks ago I thought I was a normal human being. Then I find out that my birth mother was a succubus. I’d always been able to charm men around my little finger. It had made me a brilliant reporter and now I knew why. It wasn’t only my learned journalistic skills but my supernatural ones as well. And now… now I was going to let doctors remove my blood and replace it with vampire blood. What would that do to the succubus part of me? To the human part of me? What if it made me someone else entirely?

Flynn’s mom had assured me it wouldn’t. That they would create a blend, primarily of vamp blood, and that this wasn’t their first time of turning mixed bloods. But I was a natural born worrier, and I knew today was going to drag on like purgatory while I waited for whatever tomorrow brought.

After my shower and my breakfast fit for a queen, I felt much improved and so headed downstairs where I saw Smith sitting out on the patio. I’d dressed in some simple yoga pants and a tank and went to join him.

“Hurrah, you’re alive. Want to go back to bed?” He winked.

I rolled my eyes, th

en smiled at Jayden as he placed another coffee on the table in front of me. “It’s good someone around here knows how to look after me.”

“Suck up.” Smith narrowed his eyes at Jayden but then laughed.
