Small Town Curves: A Pregnancy Romance

“I hope so, but only you can decide that, Shannon.” His expression went from good-humored boy next door, to serious in a second. “Well?”
I wanted to see him again and here he was, did it make sense to play hard to get just because he’d bruised my ego by doing exactly what I asked him to do? No, it didn’t. “Fine, but only because you’ve saved me a night of ordering pizza. Again. And I call shotgun on the wings.”
Miles didn’t seem at all perturbed by my tone or my words, he just took a step forward and waited for me to allow him entry. “I can accept that, but only because I know you missed me too.”
Too? “Who said I missed you?”
“Those big green eyes and the way they lit up when you opened the door. It’s nice to know you feel the same.”
“I don’t feel anything,” I assured him in my most haughty tone. “Well, anything except hungry.”
Miles tossed his head back and laughed as he stepped inside. “Me too, Shannon. Believe me.”
I knew he wasn’t talking about food and I wasn’t touching that, not after he ghosted me for weeks. “What kind of pizza did you get?”
“Sausage, peppers and mushrooms.” At my wide-eyed expression, a touch of pink lit up his face. “I may have asked what you usually order and gotten that.”
Damn, that was sweet. “Now I really am glad I invited you in.”
He flashed another wide smile but this time there was a carnal heat in his eyes that I couldn’t ignore, no matter how much I tried. “Then we’re off to a good start, don’t you think?”
No more flirting. I couldn’t let the flirting continue even though I spent nearly every night this week, pleasuring myself to the sound of his voice, the feel of his big, slightly roughened hands on my body. That was a fantasy, one that would probably call the next day or the next week, not the reality which I already knew, wouldn’t. “I’ll get plates and napkins,” I said instead of flirting back and high-tailed it to the kitchen, the sound of Miles’ laughter at my back.
When I returned to the living room, Miles had kicked his shoes off and took over the center cushion of the sofa, giving me no choice but to sit beside him. He had a beer in one hand and my remote in the other as he browsed our movie options. “What’ll it be?”
There were more than a dozen different romantic movies staring back at me but I couldn’t focus when he smelled so good and his body emanated so much heat that I felt a bead of sweat trickle down my back. “Let’s go with that new Hemsworth flick.”
He chuckled as if he knew what I was doing, but Miles clicked play and got down to the important business of piling food onto our plates. We sat, side by side, and shoved greasy spicy food into our mouths while the gorgeous blond ran around trying to save the world, which I quickly realized wasn’t the smartest idea.
The hotness of the movie star was enough to get me all hot under the collar, but when combined with Miles being right here and sitting way too damn close, I could barely focus on the movie. By the time the credits began to roll, I was a ball of heat and horniness and ready for Miles to go home so I could have a little alone time with my vibrator.
“So, did you like it?” When I didn’t answer right away, a big hand fell on my thigh and I gasped.
“What?”
“I asked if you liked the movie.”
I nodded absently, unable to look away from the searing hand burning through my jeans. “What’s not to love about a shoot’em up movie filled with hot guys?”
“Good point. The eight pack abs were my favorite part too.” He winked playfully just as his gaze lasered in on my mouth, my dry as the desert mouth.
“Good to know.”
“So, have you learned anything useful about running your businesses?”
I blinked, surprised at his question, not because I thought Miles wasn’t a thoughtful guy, but guys who ghost don’t usually pay attention to the details. But answering the question was better than flirting. Sort of. “Yeah, I learned that Mara is an insanely hard worker and her ideas just work. I don’t know why, yet, but I’m working on it. Did you have a successful trip?”
His smile brightened and shifted to a different kind of passionate, which was even more alluring that his sexy smolder. “It was fantastic, actually. I signed a bunch of new corporate clients which means there’s a lot of work to be done to rework the obstacle courses and come up with other ways to help suits with team building.” He kept going on and on about how surprised he was that people were so open to this type of exercise. “I thought we had a good chance at success, but nothing like this.”
