Even more than he already seemed to.

Miles

I was beyond ready for my non-date with Shannon, dressed casually and confident that my choice would have her changing her mind about me. Even so, I stood on her front porch, nervous with sweaty palms, waiting for her open the door.

“Coming!” Her voice was muffled on the other side of the door and I glanced down at the door to make sure I wasn’t early. I wasn’t. A few moments later, the door opened and the vision before me took my breath away. Shannon stood there smiling, as if she knew how much just looking at her affected me, especially that green dress that made her eyes glitter like gems and highlighted each and every one of her luscious curves. Her arms were bare, showing off defined muscles along with a healthy smattering of freckles, and her legs were on display from mid-thigh all the way down to sexy green and white wedges that gave her a sexy summer appeal, and put us almost eye to eye. “Hey, you.” Her voice came out breathless as if she was excited to see me too.

“Hey back. You look gorgeous.”

Shannon rolled her eyes and ran her hands down the skirt of her dress. “This old thing? I just bought it.” She winked and disappeared momentarily before returning with a tiny handbag and some kind of wrap that she tossed over her forearms. “Lead the way, Captain.”

I smiled over my shoulder at her. “Captain?”

She shrugged, an amused smile touching her lips. “Figured it was better than Seaman.” For a moment, she was able to maintain a blank expression but soon she dissolved into a fit of laughter that was highly contagious. “I couldn’t resist.”

I understood what she meant, because I couldn’t resist the urge to touch her bare skin as I helped her into the passenger seat of the truck I borrowed from Xander, brushing my fingertips along the back of her arm. “You get that one for free,” I told her and jogged around the front of the car, giving my body a quick chat about the night’s plan, which very likely didn’t include getting Shannon naked. Unfortunately.

“You didn’t say where we were going. Hope I’m not overdressed.”

I kept both hands on the steering wheel and risked a glance at her once again, one brow arched. “You are definitely overdressed in the best way possible, but no one will notice.”

Shannon gave a fake pout and fell against the seat. “Gee, thanks. Friend.”

I chuckled and enjoyed her banter on the drive. Shannon was smarter than she appeared, which I assumed she had her reasons for, but she was also funny and took every opportunity to laugh at herself. “We’re here.”

She ducked down and gasped once she realized where we were and I relaxed, knowing I’d chosen well. “Is this a…no way! Holy crap, where did you find a drive-in movie theater?”

“Right here,” I told her, my voice a deadpan.

“Obviously,” she said and gifted me with a smile, an eyeroll and a smack on the arm. “This is fantastic!” Shannon squealed in delight and shook her booty in her seat. “I haven’t been to a drive-in since I saw Grease at one in high school.”

“Really? Did you sing and dance along too?”

“Obviously.” I found a spot somewhere right in the middle and when the engine cut off, Shannon let out a low sigh and turned to me with a wide smile. “This is, totally fantastic Miles. Really.”

“Just wait,” I told her and left the car to go get concession snacks, knowing that when I returned, she would be even happier.

“Oh, you don’t fight fair, Miles. Not at all.”

I shrugged because hell no, I refused to fight fair when it came to something I wanted as badly as I wanted Shannon. Again.

As the movie went from one song and dance routine to the next, my desire for her only grew. She sang and clapped and shimmied in her seat, giving me a nice long look at her bare legs, the jiggle of her tits and most of all, that sexy woman on fire grin she shot my way every once in a while. “I can’t believe you didn’t sing along,” she said, still doing the Hand Jive as the credits rolled at the end.

“I don’t know the songs.”

“Big bad SEALs don’t like musicals?”

I laughed. “I like this one, I just don’t know the words, but trust me when I say that watching you was a much better show than the one on the screen.”

Shannon gasped and then licked her lips before a throaty laugh escaped. “Well I have been perfecting my moves for years.”

“No shit.”

She laughed again and turned to me, leaning in close before she pressed her lips to mine. The kiss, chaste as it was, heated my body down to the core. It was too long to be completely chaste, but her tongue never appeared and neither did mine. Again, unfortunately. “I had a great time, Miles. You’re really killing this date game, first with the paintball and now a drive-in. Well, you know, if this had been a date, you’d have killed it.”
