Small Town Curves: A Pregnancy Romance - Page 27

“I’ll take it,” I told her and kissed her again, long and slow as she slid down the length of my body until her wedged shoes touched the floor.

“Good night, Miles.”

I frowned, wondering if I misread the conversation. “I can’t stay?” I had plans to taste her until she begged me stop, to smack her round ass while I made her come again and again.

But Shannon shook her head and smiled. “As amazing as that was, no, you can’t stay. Staying is for boyfriends or prospective boyfriends. Not friends.” She kissed me again and stepped aside, kicking her panties out of the way so she could open the door.

I smiled at her words and pulled her close, planting a kiss on her that would have her dreaming of me tonight before I stepped back. “So we’re friends, huh?”

Shannon laughed and shoved at my chest. “Something like that. Now get out of here before I change my mind.”

Friends. It was a damn good start. Orgasms with friends, exactly what I was looking for.

Shannon

The morning after my non-date with Miles, I woke up with a smile on my face and my body delightfully aching in all the right places. My eyes drifted closed against the brightness in the room and I arched my back to stretch, moaning at the ache in my thighs and between my thighs. It was a fantastic non-date and it would’ve ended exactly the same if it had been a real date. Miles could be the perfect friend with benefits, if I chose to take Brenna’s advice.

Orgasms with Miles would definitely help pass the time while I was in Pilgrim, but the warning signs were there. He was the kind of guy who said he didn’t want serious and he meant it, but his actions were one thousand percent perfect boyfriend actions. “No way. No thanks. Not going there again.” That’s what I told myself as I sat up and gripped the edge of the bed.

The room was spinning and my stomach was doing somersaults, which I didn’t understand. I didn’t drink anything last night, and I doubt the concession stand popcorn and nachos were causing a problem this long after eating them. Still, the sensation didn’t get better after I closed my eyes and took in several deep breaths, letting them out slowly.

Nothing worked and fifteen minutes later I was on the phone with Mara. “You better have a damn good reason for calling me so early.”

I glanced at the clock and frowned. “You answered on the second right.”

“Yeah well, I was still busy, if you know what I’m saying.”

Oh. “Sorry. I think I’m coming down with something, so I’m going to the doctor first and then I’ll come in.”

“If he says you’re not contagious, right?”

I rolled my eyes. “Right.”

“Okay. Bye.”

I stared at the black screen of my phone and laughed. If it had been anyone but Mara, I might have been offended. Instead, I was just amused, which was exactly the mindset I needed as I dressed in jeans and a sweatshirt and made my way to the small clinic located just behind the Pilgrim Town Square. The office was inside a small ranch style house that had been converted into a medical office, complete with a spacious waiting room where the living room had once been.

“Hey, Hon. Do you have an appointment?” A woman with a silver and blond bob peeked over the crescent shaped reception desk with a smile.

“Um, no. I woke up feeling terrible and figured I could wait until the doctor has a cancellation?” I didn’t know how things worked in a small town, but I figured it was worth a shot. “Is that all right?”

She nodded. “Dr. Abernathy is already in. Let’s get your paperwork and vitals, and then I’ll go see if he can see you.”

“Really? Thanks,” I glanced down at her name tag. “Betsy.”

“My pleasure, hon.” With the speed of a woman half her age, Betsy gathered a stack of paperwork and handed me a clipboard. “Just fill that out.”

It took forever, like it always did, to fill out insurance and medical history, but I scribbled everything as quickly as I could, hoping the doctor would see me before the waiting room filled with people.

“All right, if we hurry, Dr. Abernathy can make time for you.” I handed back the paperwork and Betsy left it on her desk, taking me to the dreaded scale where I was happy to see good news.

“Down four pounds without even trying. Must be all the walking, because I’ve been eating like it’s my job,” I told her honestly, making the woman laugh.

“If I had those curves, I’d be out here embarrassing my children. And grandchildren.” Betsy grabbed a cup and led me to a bathroom for standard doctor visit business.

“It’s never too late,” I told her when I was done, and then followed her to one of the exam rooms.
