Still in the throes of orgasm, I obeyed in a haze.

And when I sank down on his massive cock, my clit hit his pubic bone…

And the spasms began again.

I rode him. Not slowly, but hard. Hard and fast. Took him as he’d taken me so many times.

“Yeah, baby. Just like that.” His deep voice floated toward me. “Just like that.”

When he gripped my hips and forced me down, releasing, I climaxed once more.

Together we rode into bliss. Together.

Always together.

I love you, sweet Zee. I love you so much.

I love you, Reid. So much.

So, so much.

I lay in my husband’s arms. Sated and relaxed but alive. Oh, so alive.

More alive than I’d been in… Ever?

Yes, ever. I never had a normal childhood, with my mother dragging me to auditions, and then of course, I never had the college experience I’d so desperately wanted.

Then my first abduction… The hunt… The escape… The meth years… Rehab… Las Vegas….

Never happy. Never alive.

But now…with Reid… I had a chance.

A chance.

Except my sister-in-law had been arrested for a murder she didn’t commit, and my husband and the rest of his family were all still suspects.

Was I selfish to feel happy at this moment?

I sighed against his shoulder.

“What is it, baby?”

“Are you happy?” I asked.

“I am.”

“So am I, but I wonder…”

“What?”

“Should we be happy? With everything else that’s going on?”

“In this room, right now, we can be happy,” he said. “We both need it. We deserve it.”

“I wish we could stay here forever.”

“So do I, love. So do I.”

Then a knock on the door.

“Crap,” Reid said.

I didn’t echo his sentiment, though I felt it. If only…

But too much was still at stake. I still didn’t know why I’d been brought here under duress. What the breadcrumbs were that Diamond spoke of. How Reid got here.

So many unknowns, but it was difficult to care while I was in Reid’s arms.

But I did care. I cared so much. What would it take for Reid and me to have a life happily ever after?

I didn’t know, other than it wouldn’t happen tomorrow or the next day. Not until Derek’s murder had been solved.

And even then…would we still be able to live in peace?

After all I’d been through—all Reid had been through—I had to wonder if it was in the cards for us at all.

Lacey

I needed to get in touch with Rock, but he wasn’t answering the burner number he’d given me. Which of course led me to worry.

And I didn’t have time for worrying. Rock and Reid were God knew where, and I was here, holding the company together. Roy and Riley, bless their hearts, wanted to help, but they didn’t work for the company.

Yet they were still suspects, so they had a vested interest in all of this.

Morgan. If I got in touch with him, would he tell me the truth? Did he even know anything more?

Who could I talk to? Terrence was a possibility, but I didn’t trust him, of course. Then again, perhaps I could scare him into talking. Scare him into giving up Fonda.

I had Fonda’s information, as she’d been at the reading of Derek’s will. It was all on my laptop and in the cloud. Technically, since I was no longer a member of my previous firm, I shouldn’t access those records.

I laughed out loud. Fuck it all. I was already facing life in prison. What did I care about a slight ethical breach by accessing precious client records? Especially when the client was dead?

I sat down with my laptop and found Fonda’s information. She had an apartment here in Manhattan and two phone numbers. Also the number of her agent, Fredricka, the same as Riley’s agent.

What the hell? I dialed the first number.

“Hi, darling, it’s Fonda. You know what to do!”

I was calling from one of my burners, so there’d be no way to trace the call. I left no message.

Quickly I typed in the second number.

“It’s Fonda, loves. You’ve reached my cell phone. I’m busy at the moment but I’ll be sure to return your call as soon as possible. Just leave your name and number. Ta!”

So much for that.

Why not try Fredricka? Fonda was an ageing model, but she still did shoots now and then. I made the call.

“Fredricka Gallant agency.”

“Good morning. Lacey Wolfe for Fredricka, please.”

“May I tell her what it’s regarding?”

“I’m Riley Wolfe’s sister-in-law.”

Seemed to do the trick. “Let me see if she’s in.”

I waited a minute, and just when I was sure she wouldn’t be taking the call—

“This is Fredricka.”

“Hi there, Lacey Wolfe. Thank you for taking my call.”

“Is Riley all right?”

“Yes, she’s fine. I’m actually calling regarding another of your clients. Fonda Burke. I’ve been trying to reach her.”

“You and me both,” Fredricka said. “I’ve left message after message. She hasn’t called me back in almost a month.”

Interesting. About the length of time Derek had been dead.
