“That’s debatable.”
“I didn’t come here to fight. You’re in danger.”
Alex gripped my tie in her hand. “I shouldn’t have to suffer for your crimes.”
“I know, baby. Trust me. Please.”
Her lips brushed mine. “Every time I trust you, I end up getting hurt.”
“This time is different.”
She moved her hand to the back of my neck, her fingers trailing along my skin.
“I know you hate having Marcello watch over you, but it’s for your protection. I can’t lose you, too. Marry me, Drea.”
“Luca,” she whispered.
“If something happens to me, I need to know my family will take care of you.”
“I need more, Luca. And you can’t give it to me.”
“Just give me more time.”
She drew in a breath between her teeth. “I’ve given you ten years of my life. What have I gotten in return?”
“Agree to marry me, and I’ll give you everything you have ever wanted.”
Threading my fingers through her hair, I slipped my tongue into her mouth as she gripped the back of my neck, crushing my lips with hers. With each flick of our tongues, the kisses were more intense, more impatient. We clawed at each other’s clothing, all hands and tongues doing the talking.
I was better at showing her how I felt than using my words. My father had taught me a long time ago that actions spoke louder.
“Luca,” she muttered. “Kali will worry if I don’t get back soon. She already thinks something’s going to happen to me.”
I slid my hand up her stomach and over her breasts, feeling her hard nipples over the fabric of her thin shirt. “Just a few more minutes, baby. I need to feel you.”
She melted into my touch as I pinched her nipple between my fingers, leaving a trail of kisses along her neck. Sucking her bottom lip into my mouth, I tugged on it hard, earning a few moans in response.
I lifted her leg, wrapped it around my back, and shoved her linen shorts and panties to the side. My tongue tangled with hers, and she moaned as I pushed one finger inside her wetness, then another. She was so wet, so tight, and with each movement of my fingers, her body trembled.
Burying her face against my neck, she gripped my arms for support as I broke through her inner walls and rolled my thumb over her clit. It didn’t take long before she was groaning my name, her orgasm ripping through her as she came on my fingers.
Gasping for breath, she whispered, “You’re the most confusing man I have ever met.”
“Other men would bore you.” I slid my fingers out of her pussy and brought them to my mouth to suck her juices from them. “Tonight, I have a surprise for you.”
She gripped my tie in her hand, feeling the silk between her fingers.
“What kind of surprise?”
“A date.”
“You’ve never taken me on a date.”
“I never had a wife before.”
“You don’t even have a fiancée.”
“You’ll say yes. I’m not worried.”
She tugged on my tie. “So confident.”
“Always.”
Our perfect moment ended with my cell phone ringing.
I removed the phone from my pocket. “What? I’m busy, Marcello.”
“We have a problem. Grab Alex and Kali and come back to the house.”
Before I could respond, the line went dead.
Alex
We piled into the car with Kali on my lap. Luca’s Aston Martin Vanquish was a two-seater, which made the car chase even more uncomfortable and terrifying. I imagined dying in a fiery crash at the hands of the psycho trying to run us off the road.
A black van with tinted windows tried to cut Luca off before we left the marina. My heart hammered in my chest as Luca floored the gas, the tires screeching as he headed up the steep incline toward The Hills.
“Luca,” I bit out. “What the hell is going on?”
“You’re in danger,” he said in a calm, even tone, though the way he clutched the steering wheel said otherwise.
I glanced in the rearview mirror and gasped. “Who’s following us?”
“Let me deal with him,” he shot back. “Just sit back and hold on.”
He raced up to the guard gate, which opened for us without issue. The guard tipped his hand to Luca, then metal spikes shot up from the ground as the man in the van approached. His tires screeched to a halt, but it was too late.
Luca tapped a button on the steering wheel and the phone rang through the speakers. Marcello answered on the first ring.
“Marcello,” he growled. “Send a team down to the gate before we lose them.”
“Where’s Alex?”
“With me. Tell Bash and Damian I have Kali.”
He blew out a deep breath. “I’m on it.”
Then the line went dead.
Luca drove as if he were on the Autobahn. The expression on his face shifted as he went into battle mode. His face was a blank canvas, clear blue eyes filled with anger.
