“He just wants me to be happy. My mom feels the same way.”

So did Rook. “You happy?”

“I’m still wearing a badge. It’s just a different type of badge.”

“A better kind.”

“Sure,” she murmured. Her face became animated. “Hey! You know what I’m not happy about?”

“What?”

“Us still standing in this hallway instead of us getting naked and sweaty.” She tugged on his hand and he followed her down the short hallway to their bedroom.

He smothered his smile when her fingers twitched in his hand as soon as she spotted it.

What he’d left for her on the bed.

Giving it to her today was perfect timing since she was joining them on a run for the first time.

“Rook,” she whispered.

“Yeah?”

She released his hand and approached the bed to run her fingers over the smooth black leather and the rockers that claimed she was “Property of Rook.”

He wasn’t sure if she’d wear it, but he at least wanted to give it to her. Whether she wore it on the run was her decision. Just like she wanted him to do whatever was comfortable for him when it came to her family, he wanted the same for her with his.

She turned wide light blue eyes to him. “Are you kidding me?”

He stepped up behind her, wrapped his arms around her belly and pulled her against him. “You belong to me?”

“Of course.”

“I belong to you?”

“Yes.”

“Then no, I ain’t kiddin’.”

“The ol’ ladies only wear them on the runs.”

He shook his head. “Ain’t true.”

She turned in his arms and frowned. “When else do they wear them?” Her expression quickly changed from confused to just the opposite. “Oh,” she breathed.

“Yeah. Oh.”

She smiled.

He grinned.

It ended up not being a quickie.

Not a quickie at all.

His time with her actually took longer than he’d ever dreamed.

In the end, it lasted forever.
