After dimming the lights, he turned to fix his eyes on me. They glittered down my body, softening as he stepped close again. And as he did, my body weakened for him.

He slowly spread my legs apart and moved between them in a matter of seconds, grabbing my glass and stretching his arm past me to place it on the nightstand.

“I don’t think I can wait for you to finish that,” he breathed, the tip of his nose running down my jawline.

“But it was so good though,” I murmured.

“I’ll let you finish as soon as I’m finished with you.”

“By that time it’ll be all warm and gross.”

He chuckled. “I’m glad you think we’ll be at it long enough for your drink to get warm. Smart not to underestimate me.”

Finally, it had arrived. The very thing I’d been waiting for.

In that moment we were like magnets. Connected. Unable to be pulled apart unless someone dragged us out and sent us our separate ways.

He held me tight, his lips molding with mine as he rocked against me. My back hit the cool pillows and Max slid upward, rocking his groin on mine.

In an instant he flipped me over and I was on top of him. He took off my dress, tossing it aside when he had gathered the material in his hands.

I positioned myself on the center of his lap, tipsy, uncaring. I’m sure he wanted it that way. Not that I hadn’t taken it into consideration. Max wanted me as loose and free as possible, considering the terms we were on. I could’ve postponed this—held off—but I could no longer deny him.

He knew I was into him.

And I knew he was into me.

The way his eyes roamed my body, how he strained in his boxers and held me close proved that we both had a desire that needed fulfilling. No longer able to hold back, I leaned down and kissed him, cupping his face in my hands and bringing him upright with me.

Groaning, he cupped my ass in his hands, and I sighed. My tongue immediately explored his mouth and I got a taste of the pink moscato he’d just drank.

Hungrily I kissed him, grinding on his lap, wanting him to feel how badly I wanted this moment. In seconds my bra was off, my breasts pressing on the warmth of his chest.

I didn’t think I’d cave so easily to the idea of being almost naked on top of him, but it was hard not to. I’d been attracted to Max since the beginning. Ever since he set foot in Capri.

His chiseled face, sculpted lips, and a body to fucking die for—Maximilian Grant had it all and not even the girl that pretended he didn’t exist could deny him.

Back then, he was everything I’d longed for. Someone I knew I would be permanently attracted to, someone who actually listened. Someone who defended my honor and stood up for me. Someone who found me just as beautiful as I did him. Someone who was just a tiny bit aggressive and a little rough around the edges, but genuinely sweet on the inside.

Well, I guess I should say at the time he was what I wanted—what I craved. I needed fun after all I’d dealt with, I just didn’t think I deserved it. I felt taking care of my sister and myself was all that mattered—working hard to provide for her and myself—but Max quickly proved that theory to be false.

As I continued kissing Max, trailing my lips down his bare chest, he stiffened beneath me and I looked up. He was already looking down at me, eyes hard, face somber in the dim lighting.

I stopped immediately, asking, “What’s wrong?”

He was quiet a moment, studying me. “I…fuck.” He released a heavy breath. “I thought I could go through with this, but I can’t. I can’t do this. Not to you.”

I sat up, offended by his words. “What do you mean? Isn’t this what you wanted from me tonight?” I collected my bra and then folded my arms to cover my chest.

He grabbed my wrists and gently removed my arms one by one. “No,” he whispered, bringing his lips close to one of my nipples. “I mean it is what I want, don’t get me wrong,” he said, defending himself. “It’s just…I can’t take you on these terms. This can’t be just because I wanted it. And it can’t just be one time. I don’t want it to happen like this—because you think you owe me. A girl like you is hard to find. I don’t want to lose out on someone like you.”

“I want to,” I assured him. “I mean at first I didn’t but…shit. Max, how can I resist you right now?” I looked him over, studying the flat planes and muscles of his body. “Besides, it doesn’t have to be just this once.”
