My teeth sink into my bottom lip. “Aww, John. You’re going to make me cry.”
“Please don’t. You just did your makeup and we don’t have time for you to do it again,” he chuckles, and I break out in a joyful laugh. He wraps his hand around mine and we walk to the door. “Come on. Let’s go meet your starving sister before she bites her husband’s head off.”
I laugh as we leave the room, so ready for us to take on this night. John hasn’t been like this since the day we met. To see him so happy, well it completes me. Even if the OP were to sweep through my lungs again one day, at least I’d know that our baby will be well taken care of.
They say people come into our lives for a reason. Some don’t believe that saying, but I do. I believe I was with Max in the past to learn and to grow. And I believe I met John so that I could learn to be loved properly, cared for, and to heal from all the trauma in my past.
Both of these men were so close to giving up in their lives, but I was there to help pick up some of the pieces. I of all people know what it’s like to constantly lose—to feel like you’ve hit rock bottom at every turn—but I also know how to keep going.
If it weren’t for either of them, along with my sister, I don’t know where I’d be now, but I am here. I am happy. I am healthy. I have a new start and I’m even carrying a new life.
I will cherish it all.
Every second.
Every breath.
Every laugh.
I will take this chance and do it right. For Max. For my father. For my baby.
I will do it all, and nothing will stop me or break my spirit because I have so much to live for. I have always had so much to live for.
This is the life I have been given.
I am strong.
Powerful.
Empowered.
Renewed.
Every moment counts now, and I will make sure that the rest of this life I’ve been given is worth every single sacrifice I have made.
The End
