And a secure life is exactly what we will have here. Jonas can run the business, and he has plenty of help with his organization. It runs smoothly enough that he should be able to delegate some of the work over time so that we can spend more of our days together. I have an idea about that, too. Something that might make the workload easier, and give us more time together. I'm sure he's going to approve.

And in the future, when we've returned from our honeymoon, what then? I don't need to ask him to know that he, too, is thinking about children. Our lives together are going to be amazing.

“What are you thinking about?” Jonas asks, his voice rumbling through the chest that my head lays on.

“About you,” I say. “And the future. And whatever else may come.”

“All positive, I hope?” he asks.

I look up at him with a smile, resting my head on my hand so I can stay propped up. “Why would it be anything but?”

He laughs slightly, reaching out to tuck my hair behind my ears as he always does. “I have no idea. I can only see good times ahead for us.”

“Me, too,” I agree.

His hand slips almost idly over my shoulder, down over my body to rest on my ass. “Especially if it’s even half as good as this.”

“You can count on that,” I say, leaning forward to kiss him. He must have recovered enough, because before I know it, I find myself on my back, looking up at his body over mine.

And it’s a view I’m going to enjoy for as long as the two of us are alive and able.

Epilogue

Jonas

I grab the bags I picked up at the store out of the trunk, hefting them in my arms and head for the door. It feels like some kind of kids’ toy – the kind where you pile as many items onto the toy as possible before it throws everything off, or breaks.

I make it to the door and use my elbow to press the doorbell, waiting for Savannah to come and open it. I should probably have carried fewer bags in one go and opened the door myself. I can already hear what she’s going to say before she says it. But I’m impatient to be home.

I don’t have to wait long before the door opens, showing me Savannah standing behind it. In her arms she is bouncing baby Joanna, keeping her entertained and talking to her in a soft and gentle voice. “Here’s Daddy,” she says, keeping her attention on Jo but shooting me an amused look. “See? Daddy’s got too many bags. Isn’t Daddy silly?”

Jo giggles appreciatively, a sound that quickly devolves into a gurgle. I shake my head, grinning. I love being able to predict what my wife might say or do.

I love knowing her so well. I love that we found each other in time to start this life together. I love that we are everything now.

I follow Savannah into our home, kicking the door shut behind me. It took us some time and a lot of adjustments to the property, but we finally found the place where we want to live for the rest of our lives. A sprawling family home with both comfort and style – the perfect balance between a Texas country home and a Vegas penthouse suite.

Although at this moment in time, it is considerably more comfortable than chic – with toys strewn across almost every surface and soft corners fitted onto the edge of every piece of furniture to make it an injury-free zone.

“How was the pick up at the store? Not too busy?” Savannah asks over her shoulder as she leads me back into the kitchen. Something up ahead smells very good indeed.

“Not too busy,” I confirm. I set the bags down on the counter and start unpacking, taking a moment to sniff over the pan that Savannah’s been working over and feel my stomach rumble in anticipation of a great meal about to happen. “Anything from work?”

“No, nothing. Marco said he’d let us know tomorrow about the meeting since it’ll likely finish late.”

“Got it,” I reply, concentrating on putting away the fresh fruit and vegetables before they spoil. Savannah sneaks a bunch of vine tomatoes from the counter, quickly washing them to add to our meal.

I sometimes have to take a step back and look at how much my life has changed since meeting Savannah. I don’t know how it all happened so quickly, like a bolt of lightning. One day, I was a bachelor living in a hotel penthouse suite just off the Las Vegas Strip, going into the office every day, always busy and always hustling to keep things turning over.

Now, I’m living in a huge family home outside the city, married with a baby, working remotely, and letting my junior employee handle most of the new business intake.
