I haul her out from behind the painting, but despite feeling overwhelmed and frustrated, I’m still clear-headed enough to remember to put the painting back in place. I don’t want anyone else discovering that secret place.

That’

s ours.

I carry her down several hallways until I finally reach the one that holds my father and Maxwell. The students who attend the school are nowhere to be seen. I raise an eyebrow.

“You found her,” my father says.

“So I did. Where are the students?”

“They’re in their classrooms,” Maxwell says.

“You can shut off the alarms and let them free,” I tell the men. “I’ve found the girl.”

“She needs to be locked up,” my father looks pissed. He looks royally, completely, pissed, and suddenly, Heather seems to fall silent. Smart girl. No, she doesn’t want to be locked up by the wolf pack. First of all, I don’t even know where my father would lock someone up. I mean, we live in the middle of the forest and despite the fact that the school is held in a huge castle, it doesn’t exactly have a dungeon.

“Consider it taken care of,” I say, and I turn and walk away.

“Flynn!” He calls out, and I stop and turn back.

“Where are you taking her?”

“My room.”

Both my father and Maxwell stare at me hard. Yeah, they know this is a terrible idea, but is either one of them actually going to stop me? I didn’t think so.

“We’ll need to find out more about what she knows. Even if she’s just having mating dreams and she isn’t involved in the abductions, she may have information we can use.”

“Consider it done.”

Then I turn and walk away, and I wonder what the hell I’ve gotten myself into.

Chapter Nine

Heather

He takes me out of the building and walks through the woods a short distance. As I suspected, there are many different little homes around here. There are a couple of duplexes and I even saw a set of townhouses, but the place he brings me to looks more like a miniature replica of the original castle. It’s only two stories high and it’s less than a quarter of the size of the main castle, but it’s still got fucking turrets and everything.

“Where are you taking me?”

“Heather, shut your mouth until we get inside.”

Something about his clipped tone makes me listen to him. I’m not going to say I’m obeying him because, well, I don’t like the idea of obeying someone I’ve just met, but I’d like to think my protective instincts are kicking in. At least my self-preservation instincts are.

I’m silent as he walks into the castle lobby, looks around, and goes up a big staircase. He turns down a hallway and goes to the very last door. He pushes it open, steps inside, and locks it behind him. I remain silent until he sets me down on the bed. Then I leap up, throw myself at him, and start kissing him.

Fast.

Hard.

Needy.

He doesn’t resist – although, I didn’t really expect him to – and instead, he pulls me into his arms and kisses me back. It’s a horrible idea to make out with a stranger, especially one who just a few hours ago kidnapped me, but I’ve never claimed to be a saint. If anything, my instincts have always been a bit strange and unpredictable, and oh, I can’t believe that Flynn is kissing me.

“Stop thinking,” he commands. He fists my hair and tugs my head back as he starts kissing my neck.

“I’m not,” I lie, and he swats me on the ass while kissing me. Oh, so he likes to play a little rough. Is that it? I don’t even mind. In fact, I rather like it.
