Mountain Rough - Page 16

“Well, I’d swim in the pool—if there was a pool.” She grinned and stepped closer to me, moving her lips to mine.

“Yeah, I guess you can go.” I nodded and kissed her.

It was a passionate kiss that lasted for several minutes before our lips were parted. I loved the way they felt when they were pressed against mine. I loved crushing them and feeling that slight bit of discomfort before she finally succumbed to the passion. Our tongues moved in unison once it finally came.

When the kiss was done, we walked down to my truck and started driving down the mountain. She had a wonder in her eyes when she took in the sights. I hadn’t felt that way in a long time, although it was nice to see Blue Ridge again after being away for so long. I pulled my truck up next to Town Hall and opened her door once we were parked. She took my hand and let me help her down.

“Hopefully this will be quick.” I started walking and she caught up with me, taking my hands in hers.

“Yeah, I’m ready to have more fun.” She squeezed my hand as we took the steps and opened the front door.

Town Hall was mostly empty. I looked at the the signs until I saw the desk for permits. We walked up to it and there was nobody tending to it. There wasn’t even a bell to summon anyone. I locked eyes with one of the workers, but they scurried off before I could say anything. I started to get annoyed, wondering if there was anyone actually working that desk. After several minutes, I decided to start walking around while Mandy remained behind. It definitely didn’t seem like a hub of activity. A couple of other people came in, but the services they needed seemed to be manned. I finally gave up searching and returned to the permit desk, where I saw Mandy speaking with someone.

“Ah, finally. There is someone here.” I walked up quickly and leaned against the desk.

“Yep.” Mandy turned towards me and smiled. “Ms. Grant was just filling me in on the process. There are some forms to fill out and they’ll email you a response once they are reviewed.”

“How long does that take?” I stared at a clipboard that was put in front of me.

“It depends.” Ms. Grant shrugged. “If they’re simple, you’ll hear something in a couple of days. If they require further review, it could be a couple of weeks.”

“I don’t have a couple of days! I definitely don’t have a couple of weeks!” I felt my anger rising.

“Hold on.” Mandy put her hand on my arms. “She’s just doing her job. Let’s fill out the forms and start the process before we start filing complaints.”

“Yes, please do.” Ms. Grant’s expression soured and she narrowed her eyes at me.

“Okay, I’m sorry.” I gathered the clipboard and walked over to a line of chairs.

It was pretty basic information, but I needed to fill out a half dozen forms to repair the pool, fix up the cabins, and do renovations on some of the other various areas. I even had a to fill out a form to fix the fence that surrounded the resort. I tried to be patient, filling out the same spot on multiple forms at once. I hated bureaucracy. I dealt with it a lot in the city and coming back to Blue Ridge was supposed to be an escape from that kind of shit. It seemed that the small town I grew up in had started to embrace the rest of the world.

“Okay, they need an email address.” Mandy pointed to the bottom of the form.

“Yeah.” I nodded and tilted my head. “I had one at school and I had one for work, but that’s about it.”

“I’ll put my email on here for now. We’ll get one set up for you when we get back to the cabin.” She smiled and scribbled her email address on the bottom of the form.

I was happy when we finished up and happier when we were leaving the town behind. We drove back to the resort and spent some time kissing in the truck before we finally made our way back into my cabin. She immediately went to the computer and turned it on. It seemed that the repairs she did had helped, because she was able to load websites without the constant array of porn. She sent up an email address for me and made me write down the password.

“Check your email real quick.” I pointed to the screen. “Let’s see if we have a answer.”

“I’m sure it is a little too soon.” She opened her email and confirmed there was nothing there from Town Hall.

“I guess it was just wishful thinking.” I shrugged and put my hands on her shoulders.

“Okay, let’s set up your email in Outlook so you can just click a button and check it.” She clicked an icon I was familiar with from my office job.

“That will help.” I started massaging her shoulders.

“Oh wait.” She tilted her head towards the screen. “There’s a

lready an email address set up.”

“Probably my dad’s email.” I shrugged and kept massaging.

“Yeah, but look at this.” She pointed to the screen and started scrolling.

“What the fuck is that?” I glared at the screen and watched as she scrolled for what felt like an eternity.
