“You do make it better. Just by existing.” I climb into his lap, pressing my lips to his. “Forever and ever.”
I thought things would get better after that. But that was the thing about the crippling sadness that comes with miscarriages and facing potential infertility. The happy moments were fleeting and few and far between. The sad moments were severe and constantly lurking in the depths of my mind waiting to rain on those few sunny moments.
“No,” I answer finally, “you never said you wanted out.”
Soft lips peppering kisses up and down my neck pull me out of the last few moments of sleep and everything comes back to me.
Lips on mine.
Gentle.
Passionate.
Bruising.
Possessive.
I push back, snuggling further into his embrace and he tightens his hold on me. His cock presses into my back and I feel it hardening with each passing second. I move my ass back and forth against him and he chuckles in my ear. “Tease.”
I turn in his arms and stare up at him, honestly a little shocked that I’m back in bed with Bennett Clarke. “I can’t believe you?
??re here…with me,” I whisper, as I feel tears brimming in my eyes and he pulls me harder against him.
“Here with you is the only place I’ve ever wanted to be.” His green eyes are full of sincerity. “From the moment I laid eyes on you, I knew you were the one.”
He cups my face and I’m hyper aware of the ring on his finger. His wedding ring. And for the first time, I feel the need to have mine.
“I wonder if you still have my rings…” I muse aloud.
“I was wearing mine around my neck, I’m sure I still have your rings…I guess at my apartment? I suppose we should go over there anyway…to maybe get some more of my stuff?”
“You think you’re moving back in that easily do you?” I ask cheekily.
“I don’t want to be away from you, Livi,” he tells me emphatically.
“You want to break your lease?” I raise my eyebrow at the man currently not thinking like a realtor.
“I’ll sublet, or fuck it, I’ll keep paying for it. I’m not going back there.”
I raise an eyebrow at him. “You think I’m giving in that easy? Maybe I want you to court me a little, Mr. Clarke. Make you work for it,” I tease as I pull out of his grasp and move off the bed.
“Work for it? Last night you were all but begging to work my dick.”
“Rude!” I stomp as I put my hands on my hips and he chuckles. “And you have a good dick. Sue me.” I shrug as non-committal as possible and he’s off the bed in an instant, pulling me into his arms. His smile has faded from my joke and he looks serious, almost somber. His green eyes are solemn as he studies me.
“Don’t make me go back to my apartment, Olivia. I know you don’t trust me, but let me earn it while we’re under the same roof.”
I’m about to respond when my phone begins to buzz on my nightstand. I look towards it before turning back to him. “Give me a second?” I tell him and he nods before sitting back on my bed and I take that to mean he’s not granting me any privacy. I wonder if he thinks it’s David and is planning to stake his claim loudly if necessary. I shake my head at him when I realize who it is and answer the phone. “Olivia Clarke.”
His eyes darken at my greeting and then his arms are wrapping around my waist as I try to pull away, stifling the giggle bubbling in my throat as my boss speaks into the phone.
“Olivia?” I hear her voice and I finally succumb to sitting in Bennett’s lap.
“Mrs. Clarke,” he growls into my neck as he continues to kiss my neck.
“Yes…yes, sorry here!” I swat Bennett away. “Hey Jess, what can I do for you?”
“I know you’re still on leave, but I was hoping you could come in for a while today, there’s a meeting you need to sit in on.”
