“But it’s not the dream,” said Jake.
Matty put an arm around him. “It’s OK, Jake. We’ll keep looking. We’ll find it.”
I put on a posh accent and waved my hand delicately in the air. “I do apologize, dear, but I’ve just gotten so accustomed to perfection, I simply couldn’t survive living in anything less.”
Jake locked his arm in mine. “Who said anything about surviving? We want the dream.”
I rested my head on his shoulder and let him escort me out of the house with my six other lovers following close behind.
“Is anyone else hungry?” asked Matty.
I turned to him and snapped my finger. “Good call. We passed a nice-looking bakery on the way.”
Matty furrowed his brow. “We also passed a few nice restaurants, too.”
I gave him a wink. “No reason we can’t do both.”
“No reason at all,” he replied.
Turning back, I slid my hand into Jake’s back pocket. “I don’t know why,” I said, “but I’ve got an irresistible craving for gingerbread.”
