“Don’t go,” Carla purred softly. “Stay.” She moved seductively toward me with her eyes still closed while she ran her leg up mine, gently nudging me with her knee.
I took in a deep breath, trying to keep some semblance of control until her soft warm hand replaced her knee and I was a goner. Desire engulfed me. I turned and pulled her on top of me. Her sleepy eyes opened and she smiled seductively down at me before taking me on a passionate trip of the most intense pleasure that left us well drained. I pulled Carla close to me as we drifted back to sleep in each other’s arms.

We left a little later than we intended to. When we hit the road, we hadn’t gone too far when both our phones went dead. Normally that wouldn’t be a problem, but we didn’t have our chargers.
Carla hadn’t said a word about the night before. She was being normal but had pulled away when I tried to touch her. I decided not to over analyze the situation. I knew her secret and sooner or later, I’ll get to reveal it.
“Is there a map in this car?” Carla asked, pulling open the glove compartment. “Great.”
She took the map out and unfolded it into a giant fold-out that nearly took over the entire car.
“Do you even know how to read that thing?” I tried to glance over at her through a sea of paper maps.
“How hard can it be?” Carla shrugged. “Do you have any idea what road we are on or what direction we’re heading in?” She pushed down the map and looked at me wide eyes.
“Well, we’re off to a great start,” I shook my head.
I pulled over to try and figure out where we were.
“Why don’t we carry on in the direction we were headed in,” Carla suggested. “We can keep a lookout for road signs.”
“Good idea,” I pulled the car back onto the road. “It’s another forty minutes before we’ll see a sign.”
“We must be here then,” Carla pointed to a position on the map. “If we keep going straight, we will come to another small town. Hopefully, they will sell phone chargers.”
The town that Carla thought was not too far away turned out to be a three-hour drive away. There was a gas station as we pulled into the town. They also sold phone chargers. It was another small town, but after a few hours of driving without coming across another single soul, rest stop, or even a cow, we were tired and hungry and both a little on edge. We were lost and obviously had no clue how to follow an original map. We put our heads together and eventually found ourselves in a small town. We found the only inn in town and booked two rooms. I would’ve booked one but I thought Carla needed her space and maybe it was best because I needed time to think.
Last night while I held her as she drifted off to sleep I was overwhelmed with a terrifying realization. I thought it was because of this insatiable desire I had for Carla but this morning I realized it wasn’t just desire.

“I’m sorry I got us lost.” Carla stifled a yawn while she sipped on her tea. We’d just had a nice dinner and were both exhausted.
“It's not just your fault.” I took my share of the blame. “I should’ve realized yesterday when you were at the doctor that we would need phone chargers.”
“I think we were both a little shell-shocked with the bus leaving us stranded and me not feeling well that we both forgot about our phones.” Carla called the waiter over.
We paid our bill and walked back to the inn. I said goodnight to Carla whose room was across the hall from me. As she opened her door, she turned and looked at me standing watching her from my open door. Our eyes collided and once again pulled us toward each other. Carla dropped her purse inside her door and started walking toward me, letting her room door latch shut.
She stopped in front of me and tilted her head to look up at me. Her eyes were dark with desire and her lips were still slightly swollen from the night before. She placed a hand on my chest, went up on her tiptoes and gently touched her lips to mine. That’s all it took to spark my desire for her. I lifted her and swung her into the room, kicking the door closed behind me.
Sometime during the night Carla slipped out of my bed and headed back to her own bedroom. I felt like part of me was missing without her curled up next to me, but I let her go, and before I knew it, I fell into a deep sleep.
