Sleeping with the Enemy (An Enemies to Lovers Collection) - Page 260

“Yes,” Carla smiled at me as tears rolled down her cheeks, “I’ve always been in love with you, Damon Winters, and I still am.”

My mouth covered hers and the world around us disappeared as we got lost in each other.

EPILOGUE

Carla

“Hurry, Damon,” I waved Damon off as he rushed to park the car.

My hand massaged my belly as I stood at the entrance to the hospital waiting for him to join me.

“Are you okay?” A nurse walked out of the maternity entrance to check on me.

“Yes,” I nodded and gave the woman a watery smile. I’ve been very emotional today, even more so than I’ve been these past eight months. “I’m just waiting for my husband. He is parking the car.”

“Can I get you a wheelchair?” the kindly nurse asked me as she looked at me worriedly.

“No,” I gave her a big smile back. “I’m fine really…”

“I’m here,” Damon ran toward me out of breath. “I’m sorry I took so long. I had to park quite far away.”

“I was just offering your wife a wheelchair” The nurse looked at Damon for his support on the matter.

“Do you want one?” Damon looked at me, “It may help us get to the ward a lot quicker.” He gives me a cheeky grin. “Rather than having you sexy waddle down the hallway.”

“Alright,” I agreed. My feet and hands were so swollen and sore it would be a relief to get off my giant puffy feet.

The nurse moved like the Flash or maybe she moved normally and I had really, really slowed down with my huge belly.

“There you go,” the nurse smiled at me.

“Thank you. I can take it from here,” Damon said.

He pushed me to the maternity ward where an ecstatic Drew was waiting.

“It’s a baby girl!” His face was pale and full of awe as he spoke. “Come in and see her. She has these teeny toes and fingers.”

I got off the chair and waddled over to where my best friend was resting on a hospital bed. Hayley was cuddling a little bundle in her arms.

“Hi,” Hayley greeted me softly, her eyes immediately filling with tears making my own waterworks start.

“Meet your goddaughter.” Hayley grinned through her tears as she looked from Drew to Carla.

“She’s perfect,” I said and sniffed back my tears.

“She is so tiny.” Damon moved to stand next to me and stared down at the little girl sleeping in her mother’s arms.

“It’s your turn soon.” Hayley put her free hand on my belly.

“I hope you’ve decided on a better name for your son than Joint,” Drew rolled his eyes at the two of us.

“Well, he is one of the reasons the Reynolds and the Winters family finally put their feud to bed.” Damon put his arm around my shoulders.

“Damon is kidding about the name,” I assured our friends.

“That’s a relief,” Hayley breathed. “I was thinking we were going to have to handcuff the two of you up again to force some sense into you guys.”

We all laughed at the reference to Hayley and Drew’s destination wedding week. That might have been the best decision ever.

“Do you want to hold her?” Hayley asked me.

“Yes, please.” I leaned down and took the warm little bundle into my arms.

Damon

I stood behind Carla and looked down at the tiny little baby in my wife’s arms. I still couldn’t get over the fact that I was married and every time I said ‘my wife’, my heart swelled a bit more. Seeing my little god daughter had just swollen it up a whole lot more.

“Her fingers and toes are so tiny.” I gently touched the little pink fingers curled over the top of her blanket.

“Aren’t you due next week sometime?” Drew asked Carla. “Your due date was a week before ours.”

“Yes,” Carla smiled at Drew. “Guess your little girl was impatient to meet us all.” Carla passed the teeny tiny little girl to me.

I’ve never been so scared in all of my life as I took her from Carla.

“It’s okay,” Drew walked over to me and helped me position my hands. “See? We beat you to the altar and to have a kid.” He grinned cheekily.

“Drew,” Hayley rolled her eyes at her husband, “it’s not a competition.”

“Yes.” I stared down at the girl in his arms in awe, before I looked into my beautiful wife’s eyes. “This is going to be us soon.”

“Maybe sooner than you think,” Carla’s brows furrowed as she grabbed her stomach, and her water broke.

The End.
