The Heir Affair (Las Vegas Nights 5) - Page 23

“How do you feel?” She asked him twenty minutes later. Her eyes glowed as she observed the effect of her ministrations on him.

“Call me Twinkle Toes,” he said. “I’m sold.”

She laughed and there was such delight in it. More than the relaxing massage, this was his reward.

“Next time,” she promised. “I’ll give you a facial.”

If he wasn’t careful, she’d turn him into a hedonist. On the other hand maybe that wasn’t such a bad thing. Maybe he should arrange for a couples massage as a special treat when she put her album to bed and could relax enough to enjoy it.

“Thank you.” He pulled her into his arms for a quick hug that quickly escalated into something more as she wrapped her arms around him and held on.

In the early days of their relationship, he’d been so caught up in his body’s need for her that he hadn’t taken the time he should’ve to get to know her romantic side. Instead, it had been easier to learn what made her body writhe and where to touch her to tear moans from her throat.

At the start lust had a fierce hold on him. But as the months wore on and his craving for her didn’t so much diminish as change, he’d realized for the first time in his life he was caught up in something dangerous and delightful.

“This feels amazing,” he began, wondering how to extricate himself without upsetting her. “But after three months without you, I’m more than a little hard up. And we have to get to day six before there’s any sex allowed.” He cupped her butt and held her firmly against him, letting her feel his arousal. It wasn’t a request for sex, but a way to seek her sympathy.

“Are you sure you want to wait?”

At his fierce growl, she laughed and arched her back, rocking her hips and lightly grinding herself against him. The sharp bite of desire caused pain to flare, but not where Kyle would’ve expected. When her softly rounded stomach grazed against his lower abdomen, his heart gave a mighty wrench. This so shocked him that he stepped back instead of going in for a mind-blowing kiss.

Cursing, he rubbed his hands over his face.

“Kyle?” Melody caught at his hands and pulled them down so she could see his expression. Her eyes darkened as she regarded him. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah,” he said, cursing the uncertainty in her gaze. The last thing he wanted was for her to feel less than safe with him. Summoning a lopsided grin, he rubbed his chin. “It’s just that I go from zero to a million around you.” He glanced down at the front of his shorts. “You deserve better.”

“There’s nothing wrong with a little down-and-dirty sex.” Her lashes fluttered down to hide the glint in her eyes. “Once upon a time we fell on each other like hormonally charged teenagers.”

“That was before you got pregnant.” And before he’d overreacted to her being with Hunter in New York instead of talking through the situation.

“What does my being pregnant have to do with anything?”

He made a vague gesture in the direction of her stomach. “It’s more than just the two of us now.”

“Kyle, are you telling me you’re going to be shy in front of our unborn baby?”

This conversation was not going the way he wanted it to. “It’s not about being shy. It’s about being careful.”

“Careful?” Now she wasn’t even trying to conceal her amuse

ment. “How exactly do you plan on being careful?”

Damn her. He didn’t have an answer. Mostly because he hadn’t thought the whole thing through. When he remained silent, grappling for how to respond, she made a rude noise.

“Pregnant women have been having sex since the dawn of time. I read that during the second trimester as the nausea fades, hormones increase our sex drive.”

“Please stop.”

“In fact,” she said as if he hadn’t spoken, “many women engage in sex to stimulate labor.”

Kyle was desperate to put an end to the topic of sex. His shorts were uncomfortably tight and thinking about naked Melody, sprawled on his sheets, her belly round with his child, wasn’t helping matters one bit.

“Your turn. Have you figured out what you’d like me to do for you? We could refill the basin and I could return the favor.”

She shook her head. “I had a pedicure the other day.” Her lashes came down to shadow her eyes. “I suppose you could do my shoulders. They’re pretty tight at the moment.”

“How about I start with your hands and work my way up to your shoulders?”
