“You can open the wine,” Melody said. “I pulled a lovely red from Trent’s collection.”
“You can’t drink alcohol and I’d rather not drink alone.”
She smiled sweetly and nodded. “In that case, dinner will be ready in ten minutes.” She clasped her hands before her and eyed him with interest.
“How shall we entertain ourselves?” He closed the distance between them and slid his hands over her hips, drawing her gently toward him.
“Ten minutes isn’t a lot of time,” Melody murmured, her nails raking against his scalp in the way he liked. “And I’ve spent too much time cooking to let it burn.”
“Then we’ll just have to use the time wisely.”

After dinner, they left the dishes soaking in the sink and Melody led the way to the guesthouse where she planned to offer him the dessert of his choice: a cheesecake with white chocolate and raspberry or her. As she entered the tiny living room, turning on lights as she went, she had a tiny déjà vu moment as once again Kyle spotted the basket filled with baby things she’d left on the dining room table.
“Who is that from?” He demanded.
“I don’t know. There was no card.” She didn’t turn to look at him, afraid to see suspicion in his eyes.
“Okay.” But from the tone of his voice, it wasn’t okay.
“Did this get delivered to the studio as well?”
“No. It was waiting for me by my door.”
He froze, eyes widening. “You are in a gated community. You didn’t find that strange?”
“Um.” She recalled her earlier disquiet, but didn’t want to upset him. “I figured someone dropped it off with the guards and maybe they brought it by.”
“But they don’t have the code to the side gate. How did it get to your door?”
“It came while the crew was working on putting Christmas lights up. I figured maybe one of them brought it in.”
“Did you ask them?”
“No.”
The delivery method had seemed off at the time, but then she’d called Savannah and got to thinking about Kyle and their future and become completely distracted from the basket’s mysterious arrival.
“Melody,” he chastised, taking her by the shoulders and turning her to face him. “What the hell is going on?”
“It’s not from Hunter.”
Kyle’s mouth drew into a grim line at the mention of her ex-boyfriend. “Did you talk to Savannah or Trent?”
“It’s not from them, either.” This would probably be a good time to mention how the CD from her ultrasound had gone missing as well. “There’s something else.”
“What?”
“Friday, after the doctor’s appointment when I went to show Mia the ultrasound, it wasn’t in my purse.”
“You lost it?”
“I looked all over the studio and asked around but nobody had seen it. And then two days later it was back in my purse. I swear it wasn’t there on Friday when I wanted to show it to Mia.”
“Do you think someone at the studio took it and then gave it back?”
“No. Why would anyone do that? I just figured maybe it had fallen out and someone found it and put it back. The CD has my name on it.”
