When me and Sharmel made it inside the club, I instantly saw what all the hype concerning Mansion was about. The huge club was packed, but it didn’t feel ghetto, where everybody is all rammed up together like sardines. And I also liked that the club wasn’t just full of black people, it also had white people, Asians, and Latinos. The vibe inside the club was just what I was looking for as an escape from New York.

Sharmel wasn’t shy by nature, and after enough drinks my shyness had disappeared, so it didn’t take long for the two of us to warm up to the music and start dancing. Before long Sharmel had a guy come up to her, and without asking for permission he started to dance with her. He was a cute guy, but he was shorter than Sharmel. I knew how much Sharmel hated short dudes so it was funny to watch him interact with her.

I stepped off so as not to crowd them, and when the guy’s back was to me, I laughed at Sharmel, gesturing with my hand to indicate how short the guy was.

As I continued to dance by myself, I looked over to my right and could have sworn I saw a chick who looked just like Jasmine. But then I figured I had to just be bugging out, that there was no way Jasmine was down there. At that point, I needed a drink. I walked up to Sharmel and told her I was going over to the bar, pointing to the area.

As soon as I made it to the bar, Sharmel came up to me.

“Thank God! You gave me an excuse to get away from Mighty Mouse,” she said, and we both started laughing.

“I had to get a drink. I swear I just saw a chick who looked just like Jasmine, and I was saying, ‘I gotta get that heifer off my mind,’” I explained to Sharmel just before ordering us two Cosmopolitans.

While we sat at the bar drinking, I saw Kelvin walk by with two other dudes.

“There goes the dude from the hotel from this morning,” I said to Sharmel.

Sharmel wanted me to run up on Kelvin and his friends. But just because he had put us on the VIP list, I didn’t want to come across like a needy stalker or something, so I told her we needed to just chill and have a good time and not be intrusive.

“It’s still early. Later on tonight I’ll text him and see where he’s at,” I said to Sharmel.

We continued to drink and party and have a really good time. As time went on, the club got more and more packed. LeBron James and his entourage had showed up in the club. The chick from the TV show, The Game, showed up, and there were other celebrities that kept getting shout-outs from the DJ, but I couldn’t keep track of all the names.

We had been in the club for a good three hours, by which time I was really feeling nice from all the liquor I had drunk. Sharmel didn’t drink as much as I did, but she was enjoying herself, and getting way more male attention than I was. She had to have gotten close to three phone numbers from different dudes, and I was starting to feel self-conscious.

Just at the moment when I was thinking that maybe I was starting to lose some of my magic, Kelvin sent me a text message:

Hey beautiful, you still here? I didn’t forget about those bottles. Hit me back.

I instantly texted him back and told him that we were still there and that I was on the first floor at one of the bars. Kelvin texted me right back and told me which area he was in.

I finished my drink and told Sharmel that Kelvin had just hit me up, and the two of us made our way through the club and up a huge sweeping staircase and over to where he was at.

When we got to the VIP area, Kelvin walked up to me with a cocktail waitress who had two bottles of champagne with large sparklers on them. It was definitely a good look.

“Did I keep my promise or what?” Kelvin said to me and Sharmel.

The sparklers definitely attracted attention, and people in the VIP area were looking at me and Sharmel, trying to figure out if we were celebs.

“Yes, you certainly did,” I said to Kelvin.

The waitress popped the bottles for us and poured us some champagne, and as we drank, we made small talk with Kelvin.

“Normally we’re closed on Monday and Tuesday, but it’s Serena’s launch party for her new handbags. That’s why it’s so packed up in here,” Kelvin explained.

“Oh, we didn’t even know. Serena Williams, the tennis player, right?” Sharmel asked.

“Yeah, that Serena,” Kelvin said. “I’ll try to get y’all a bag if they got any left. I didn’t even think about it.”

I was quiet for the moment and I continued to drink my champagne. It was wild because all of a sudden it seemed like I was like really drunk or something. The sound system seemed much more powerful than before. I could feel the bass of the music in my chest. Even the huge chandeliers that hung from the ceiling appeared larger than I had noticed before. It was just a crazy feeling.

Kelvin introduced us to two of his home boys and while they made small talk with Sharmel, he took me aside and he started to make private conversation with me.

“So you having a good time?” he asked.

I smiled and told him I was. Then I joked and asked him what he had slipped into my drink.
