His full lips spread into a wry smile as their eyes met, and he left his sunglasses at the top of his head as he openly checked her out. And even though he was far from the only guy to do so, he was the one who had all of her attention.

“Hey there good lookin’,” he said to her, his voice deep and rich, “know where a fella can get a room and some food around here?”

It was a simple enough question, the town wasn’t so big there were a lot of options. There was one motel, and a handful of restaurants, one right beside the motel.

But she felt like all her words just fled from her mind, and instead she just dumbly pointed towards the road that would take him there. It wasn’t until several intense pounds of her heart that she realized how silly she looked.

“Oh, uh... that way. Just take a left and that’ll take you to Norma’s Motel & Restaurant.”

So tall, dark and confident, he seemed a bit amused, taking his time, trailing his tongue around his lips slowly.

“Tell ya what, sweet thing. For being so helpful, how about I treat you to a meal? What do you say? You and me, sit down for a bite to eat,” he remarked in a slow, charming husk.

Her stomach flipped.

Her lips curled into a smile.

She’d never been asked to a meal by someone that wasn’t family before. And she so rarely got to go out at all. Even though she just had breakfast at the farm, the thought of going out to someplace special was an excitement she rarely experienced, and before she could even think it through, she was nodding.

“Well, I’d sure love that,” she said eagerly, moving towards his fancy vehicle.

He pulled open his own door and reached inside, pressing a button. Before she could get to the vehicle, the door slid open automatically for her and he climbed on inside.

“I could use the company of the country’s brightest gem,” he remarked as he hit the button again, shutting the door automatically behind her as she got inside, helping himself to a look at those long, shapely legs of hers and a shot at that round backside.

He began to drive without delay, heading on down the main street of town.

“So you’re from here, sweetcheeks?” he asked.

“Uhhuh, all my life. You’re from... the city?” she managed, not sure which city was actually closest. Well, which big city. There were some small cities littered around within a couple hours’ drive, but her pa was the only one who went on trips out that far.

She squirms a little in the fine leather seats, liking the way it pressed against the top of her thighs. It was so soft and comfortable, not at all like the harsh seats of her truck.

“You could say that,” he said, sounding so mysterious as he drove them along the streets, not shy of sparing her another glance now and then, checking her out with a side-eye.

“I’m in town, arranging some performances for a few big bands. You’ve probably heard of ‘em, got a few country stars in the mix, including Paul Taylor,” and even she had heard that name. Her ma and pa mostly listened to old stuff, but Paul Taylor was big enough that even they gave a listen to him.

“They’re coming to town?” Brittany asked, her eyes wide. Nothing ever happened in her town, but this was huge, and she never even heard rumours! “When?”

Her hands folded in her lap, nervously rubbing each other as she looked at him with youthful excitement.

“Maybe,” he said with a smile. “I’m shopping around the county, seeing where they’re gonna set up. It’s for me to decide,” he said. “Which is why I was just talking with your mayor,” and she remembered the guy, the mayor was a charming older guy, ran a few local businesses. But that’s about all she knew of him.

He pulled them into the motel and restaurant parking lot, then turned to her.

“Name’s Trevor, by the way,” he said.

“Oh my God,” she said, embarrassment tinting her cheeks. “I can’t believe I even forgot to ask. You must think I’m so rude to new people in town,” she frowned, seriously upset with herself. “I’m Brittany. Brittany Jones. We’ve been in this town for three generations now, and I’m sure everyone here would be mighty thrilled to have some music here! There ain’t much else to do.”

He looked charmed by her flustered reaction, and reached out, placing a large, strong hand on her smooth thigh, rubbing along there a while.

“It’s okay. And Brittany? I love it, beautiful name for a most beautiful girl,” he said. “Tell you what, wanna make it up to me and just wait one moment while I check into the motel so we can inspect the room, make sure all’s good?” he asked, but didn’t linger to wait. “Be right back, Brittany darling.”

And like that the dashing man was gone, leaving her to her own thoughts before he appeared back again, dangling the room key as he pointed over to the far end of the motel.

She thought he was being awfully silly. Norma’s always had decent rooms, she’d always heard that, and Norma was as sweet as pie. But she supposed in the city the motels weren’t all owned by such decent people, and perhaps that’s why he was being so cautious.
