Fat Cat Liar - Page 36

“You’ve teased me until your mouth, lips, and tongue are all I can think about.”

Who the hell is this temptress?

“Then you show up at my job with fire in your eyes. I should have been mad, but instead, I was insanely turned on.”

Jesus, the friction between us is sending warning signals to my brain. Shut this down, Lawson.

“Greer—” I bite out a little too harshly.

“Do you really want me to stop?” She quits moving, inching back to scan my face.

“Fuck no, but I also don’t want to do something you’ll regret in the morning.”

“Why do you think I’ll regret it?”

It’s not her that will regret it. As much as I want to sink myself into her and stay until we leave for work on Monday, my conscience is suddenly showing signs of virtue.

“Where’s this coming from?”

She nibbles on her bottom lip, her cheeks flushing as she tries to scoot away. I slide my hands into the waistband of her sleep shorts and dig my fingers into her bare flesh to hold her still. Knowing she’s not wearing anything underneath the fabric sends a new surge of heat through my veins. I swallow hard and focus.

“Baby, I’m not complaining, but I’ve gotta know where this vixen has been hiding.”

“I’m not hiding. I thought it may be time to take our relationship to the next level,” she barely whispers, staring over my shoulder and avoiding eye contact. “Guess I was wrong.”

My heart plummets at the insecurity in her voice, and I internally want to beat my own ass.

“Greer, I want you more than I’ve ever wanted anything in my life. The only thing I want more is to

not fuck this up. I’m trying to go slow here.”

“Why?”

“Why?”

She nods.

“Because this means something to me. We mean something to me. You were right; I don’t share much about myself. But with you, it’s becoming easier and easier. That’s where the ‘not fucking this up’ comes in.”

“I was a hypocrite on Monday night, Lawson. There are things I haven’t shared either.”

“It’s okay, I’m not going anywhere. We have time.”

“Yeah.” Her mood slips deeper, and my chest seizes as she withdraws more.

I close the distance between us, pulling her chest to chest, and kiss along the column of her throat. “Where are you going?” I murmur into her skin.

“I’m going to let you go home.”

“You think I’m leaving? After an invitation like that? I’m not fucking going anywhere except to your bed.” I stand, balancing her easily, and start toward her room.

“You’re staying?” She jerks back in surprise.

“Hell yes.”

“But I thought… you said you wanted to go slow…”

“There are different kinds of slow. Hearing what you told me tonight, I plan on going really slow with you.” I cross the threshold to her room with my focus on one thing, her bed.
