She’s mine…

My possessive nature erupts, and I thrust upward, her head falling to my shoulder and her moans provoking me further. She moves her hands to my head, threading her fingers through my hair, and clutches tight to hold on. I pound into her, my intention of going slow lost to the desperate hunger now driving me. Her chest curves into mine, while at the same time she lets out a shaky breath, almost purring.

A nasty thought invades my mind, knowing how close I came to losing this. Our connection is so deep we are bound together by more than lust and passion.

She’s mine… I remind myself again.

My hands travel up and down her back, one going to grip her neck and the other her waist, anchoring her to me. She rotates her hips but doesn’t take over, giving me the chance to hold her close and savor this. Her lips skim along the column of my neck, whispering something faintly. Then I feel it.

She’s mouthing ‘I love you’ into my skin. This is more than giving me her trust. This is her giving me everything.

A surge of power comes over me, and my eyes fly open as a low rumble works its way up my throat.

r /> “Look at me,” I demand through gritted teeth.

She does, her brilliant smile confirming what I heard.

“The rest of today—” I kiss her briefly.

“The rest of the night—” I brush my lips along her cheek.

“The rest of my life, I’m never going to stop loving you,” I vow with a husky voice that causes her to tremble.

“I believe you.”

“And, one of these days, you’re going to marry me.”

“Hmm, am I?” She rolls her hips again.

I hug her tight, the gravity of our reunion taking hold of me. Then I smile into her hair, not daring to let her see my amusement.

Because she didn’t say no. I’m undoubtedly wearing her down.

Chapter 29

Greer

“You did what?” My high-pitched shriek pings around the room, likely loud enough for anyone in the vicinity of the conference room to hear. This is only my third trip to the Morris Construction offices, and normally, I’d be mortified. Right now, my focus is on not strangling Lawson.

He doesn’t seem fazed by my outburst, sliding a monstrous white box topped with a red bow in front of me. “Before you lose your mind, open it.”

“I’m not opening it! Whatever is in the box will not make up for this stunt. I can’t believe you’ve been sneaking behind my back again!” My voice continues to escalate, and I catch Clay and Jarod cringing out of the corner of my eye, but I continue. “You told me we were having a family lunch to share with everyone we’ve decided to move in together. Now this? You can kiss that announcement goodbye. How many times do I have to remind you that couples make decisions together? I won’t accept your ring, yet you think I’ll accept a house!?!”

“Greer, calm down and hear him out.” My dad’s voice is so smoothly cool, I glare at him suspiciously.

“Why aren’t you flipping out? You were the one I was most worried about telling we were going to live together.”

“I’ve known it was coming for a while. Lawson made his intentions clear before we left the Hamptons. I may have actually been impressed with his proposal.”

Lawson chuckles, but I’m too stunned by Dad’s last statement to give him notice. “Excuse me? When exactly did he make his intentions clear?”

“Christmas morning.”

My head starts to pound, and I rub my temple to ease the impending eruption. “Let me get this straight. Lawson approached you seven weeks ago, told you he was making a life-altering decision, without including me, and you didn’t mention it?” I’m back to shrieking.

My chair swivels to the side, blocking everyone but Lawson, who is now kneeling in front of me. He covers my hands in his and grips when I try to yank away. His beard is long gone. Now, his cheeks are covered with few days’ stubble, which irritatingly ads to his already overpowering sex appeal. I divert my attention from his eyes, knowing he’s going to try and sweet talk me into understanding his point of view.

Not this time, he’s gone too far. Buying a penthouse, canceling my lease, and forcing me to move into his place, all without my knowledge is too much. I’m not rolling over without a fight on this one.
