“You’re a tad bit smothering.” My hips grind down, taunting him.

His eyes fill with lust, his lips parting and fingers digging into my flesh. “You should be used to it by now.”

I sit up, straddling him, and begin to slide back and forth. My stomach flips as I watch him struggling to take over, feeling his hardness pulsing against the thin silk separating us.

“I’ve been thinking hard about something.”

He bucks into me, flashing his cocky grin that always sets my body ablaze. “You don’t have to think hard about it. Take off your panties and I’ll give it to you.”

I hold in my giggle at his crass joke. “That’s not it. I realized last week during the design meeting that I’m not getting what I want. Something is missing.”

All humor fades and his lips form into a tight line.

“Wait, before you freak, let me explain. I shouldn’t say something is missing. It just feels off. I’ve racked my brain, trying to pinpoint exactly what’s weighing on my mind, and I think I finally found my answer.” I pause for effect.

His jaw ticks. “Baby, you’re the boss. Anything doesn’t feel right with the plans on the house, change them.”

“It’s not the house, everything there is perfect.”

“Then what is it?”

“The paperwork, or more specifically, the contracts.”

“The contracts?”

“Well, that and the paralegal that couldn’t take her eyes off of you.”

“Who?”

“The overtly flirtatious redhead who scrubbed her fake tits across your arm more than once.”

He squints in confusion, trying to recall the annoying woman. I know when he remembers because his eyes light up. “Were you jealous?”

“It was irritating, but she’s only the tip of the iceberg. When we started signing the contracts, I didn’t like that everything was in my name.”

“We’re not arguing about this again, Greer. It’s all yours. I’ve explained this.”

“There is no argument.” I trace my hands along his arms and wrist, tugging until he releases his grip on my ass, and intertwine our fingers, bringing them to rest over my heart.

Every word I practiced suddenly disappears. Nervous excitement races through my veins and I swallow hard.

“I’ve been proud to be Greer Palmer all my life. But maybe it’s time I make a change.”

His eyes bulge, and his hands clench mine. “What are you saying?”

“It’s not what I’m saying. It’s what I’m asking. Will you marry me, Lawson?”

One second, I’m staring into his golden eyes, my heart threatening to burst out of my chest. The next second, I’m in the air, then on my back as he looms over me, careful not to crush my stomach. Our linked hands are now pressed against his chest.

“Twelve weeks. I’ve asked, begged, pleaded, and done everything in my power to get you to accept my proposal every day for twelve weeks.” His voice is rough, his eyes wild, and his face cl

ouded with a ferocity I’ve only seen once in our time together.

The day in the cabin when I gave myself back to him.

“Tell me you’re mine.”

“I think you already know that.”
