Falling for the Villain

Donovan closed the door behind us.
I could feel his heat as he wrapped his arms around me and whispered against my neck, “Something to share, pet?”
I grinned. “I’m pregnant again.”
“Just like that?” He smiled against my neck.
“Do I really need to explain the ins and outs of getting pregnant to you, Donovan?”
“Please do. Be as graphic as possible. Pictures preferred, actually. Feel free to act it out; I’ll sit.”
He moved, but I turned around in his arms, now facing the piano across the room.
Something caught my eye.
Something red.
Red.
“What’s that?” Tears filled my eyes as a red rose laid across the top of the piano keys.
“Oh. That.” He grabbed my hand and led me toward the piano bench, then pulled it out for me as he reached for the red rose. “It’s for you. Because you’re no longer just my pet, you’re my Juliet, my wife. You’re all three, and now I own you with it.”
“You do,” I agreed, wiping my cheeks.
“Then there’s only one thing left for us to do, I guess.”
He sat me down at the piano and placed his hands on my shoulders, putting pressure there, keeping me safe, secure. I knew what his next words would be. Grabbing the red rose, he held it in front of my face from behind and whispered in my ear, “Play with me, Juliet.”
Not as servant and master.
His partner.
His love.
His soulmate.
“Okay,” I said through tears. “I’ll play with you, Donovan.”
He moved around and sat with me on the piano bench. “A duet, I think would be acceptable?”
“Together.” I smiled.
“Together.” He grabbed me at the back of my neck and pulled me in for a deep kiss, then released me. “Just no Chopsticks.”
I laughed.
And I realized I only laughed like that with him
In his home.
His arms..
With my villain, I’d not only found my laugh but my real home again.
With the monster.
Because in my books? Heroes could go screw themselves.
Give me war.
Give me destruction.
Give me sweet death.
Give me Donovan.
My master for eternity.
The End
