“What’s that for?” he asked, referring to the glow stick.
“It’s for when it gets dark. Even torch lights were snuffed out. After fires, these are the next best sources of light we can get,” she said, waving the glow stick. Xander chuckled. She reminded him of Nia.
“Hey, Harper, my leg is fine now. Don’t you think we should go out searching? It’s been a day already,” he asked. That was the main thing on his mind.
Harper sighed with a smile on her face.
“Okay, Xander. We’ll go now. I can see how much you love your sister. Would you come along, Joel? If there’s anyone who would be able to trace them, I’m sure it would be you.”
Xander raised a brow and Harper chuckled.
“He is the head teacher here at Lincoln Park High School. He is super intelligent.”
“Oh, come on,” Joel said. “There’s no need to blow my trumpet. I’ll come along.”
Harper seemed to glow.
“Great,” she said and they all began to move towards the school’s exit.
The crowd in the hall was overwhelming. They had to push through some and walk around the rest. Just as they got through to the exit, Joel asked,
“So, where exactly are we hoping to find your sister?” and they all stopped.
None of them had thought about that.
“Well,” Xander began, “We were going to begin at the amusement park. That’s where they were supposed to be at the time the EMP hit.”
“How old is this girl actually?” Joel asked with a raised brow.
“It’s not just a girl. My sister and her friend got lost together.”
“How old?” Joel simply asked again.
“Eleven.”
“And who were the girls with?”
“A friend of mine,” Xander said.
Joel thought on it for a while before saying,
“I’m not sure but I think there should be another camp at Lincoln Park. We might find them there,” he said.
Harper piped up.
“See, I told you he was the best addition to our team. Let’s get going.”
Just as they were about to head out, they were accosted by a soldier. He was a large man with a gun.
“Hello, please we would need your attention inside. We have an important announcement to pass,” he said. Three other soldiers walked into the school.
Fear filled Xander. This couldn’t be good.
