“Hey, how’s everything going over there? Good?”

Maybelline nods, and Chaos returns the gesture.

“Nice, just don’t do too good. Business is good financially but I don’t want some nosey Karens looking over here while sipping their fucking latte wondering what they can do to better the fucking community.”

I can’t help but laugh, a couple of the other guys doing the same.

“The way I bake I don’t think you’ll have to worry about that.” Maybelline shrugs, her hand on the handle to the front door.

“I don’t know, they taste fine to me,” Ruin says, crumbs all down his beard, a half-eaten muffin with a wrapper hanging from his fingers.

“I had some help this batch.” She looks at me again and takes the opportunity to leave before the guys ask her another question. She’s uneasy around them that’s for sure.

Is it fear? The unknown of what goes on in here?

Asia steps into the middle of the room with her hands on her curvy hips, her heels clicking loudly.

“Who is that?”

“Maybelline,” Ruin informs.

Asia flips her hair and raises her nose a little higher in the air. I can tell Asia is about to start up shit. Sometimes I wish Jupiter and Bear would have taken that bitch out.

“She a new girl?”

“No, she’ll never do a scene for the Kings.”

“Fucking straight.” The words fall from my mouth before I can catch them and Ruin gives me a side-eye, the other guys not catching my outburst.

Asia turns, her brows furrowed as if she’s angry at what I’ve just said.

“She’s too much of a prude.” I give an asshole laugh to cover my tracks and Asia giggles at my remark.

Bear shakes his head and walks outside. He knows me too well and this façade that I have of not wanting Maybelline is something he sees right through.

Walking outside to join Bear, he’s leaning up against the building.

Rubbing the back of my neck, feeling all sorts of off as I stand next to him.

“Look man, if you like her then you better do something about it before you fuck it up and another man steps up.”

I remember him almost hating Jupiter to the point he loved her, but he’d be damned if another man stepped in while he was trying to figure out what he wanted to do with her.

“Am I on the books with Asia today?”

Bear shakes his head.

“I don’t think so. Wait, she’s doing a solo act, dildo action. I heard Ruin talking about it earlier.” He remembers. I’ve seen Asia’s pussy so much I think I could sketch the damn thing in my sleep.

“Got it.”

“Oh, the guys want to know if you’ll help move some shit from the coffeehouse to a different location?” Bear gives me an off look.

Putting together what I’ve heard and what he’s asking, he wants me to help haul drugs from the coffeehouse to the tracks with Jinx and North.

Something knots in my stomach, and I want to tell them not to do it. Move them another way, hide them somewhere else and don’t involve Maybelline, but my head tells me to shut the fuck up and let them do what they’re going to do. We’ve had enough shit go down with drugs being misplaced lately, so it’s a touchy topic.

“Yeah. No problem,” I reply before walking away.

Maybelline

Not one customer shows up for the remainder of the morning, it’s like Chaos telling me not to make too much business put some bad juju on the place. Dumping out the coffee I brewed this morning, I begin a new batch for the afternoon, hoping someone will stop in. Sitting on a leather stool by the register, I pull out a laptop from under the counter and open it up to check Facebook and YouTube videos. My eyes slip along the side of the screen where I could create a page for the café, but that would definitely bring customers from the area and that would not suit well with the Kings. I need to face it, I’m a cover-up and nothing more. Maybe I can save up and open up another café somewhere and do what I want with it? It’s a good goal. Everyone should have aspirations, right?

The door opens, letting off a little ding to alert me. My eyes snap up, excited I have a customer only to find that chick that was in the club this morning. She called me a rat. She looks around the place with her a sneer on her face, her chin lifted as if she’s above coffee and books. We’re so different, I can’t help but wonder if Crow has hooked up with her.

She finally makes her way to the counter and the smell of her perfume is so strong I can’t smell the coffee beans. Looking up at the menu written in chalk above my head she taps her chin with her finger. Her nails are sharp and pointed and painted very red.
