We’re bringing these fuckers down.

“Y’all have a good night!” Bear salutes them, and I give them a curt nod.

Climbing back on my bike, I rev my motor and head back home. Making it down the shitty roads and back onto pavement that the city actually maintains, I stretch my leg out and tug out my phone. I have one missed call from B. I wonder if they already raided the tracks or if he’s waiting for me. Surely they went on without me, with me being undercover. Sliding it back into my pocket, I speed up wanting to get back to Maybelline and the club.

Maybelline

Standing at the window of the café, I stare and wait as each minute ticks by. The day has come and is almost gone and my heart is beginning to panic that something happened to Crow. I’m scared that I might have to run and I don’t know where to go.

“Here, drink this, it’ll help your nerves.” Dime presents a cup and I clasp my hands around it.

“It looks like tea.” My voice is low and full of emotion.

“It is, drink it.” She sighs and stands next to me, crossing her arms across her chest.

Bringing the cup to my lips, I take a sip, the warm green tea filling my mouth. It’s better than coffee, I’ve had several cups today and it’s just making me more jittery and on edge.

“Have any of the Kings come out?” she asks, looking across the road with me.

“I haven’t seen any.” I take another sip.

“That’s a good sign then. Maybe Crow talked them into actually giving him a second chance.”

A body-consuming sigh leaves my mouth, wondering if the club is tricking Crow and is actually going to hurt him when he returns.

A slick black SUV breaks our view from the club’s driveway as it passes through. I think nothing of it but then another one comes right after it, and then another.

“Holy shit, Maybelline, do you think it’s the DEA?” Dime asks in a whisper.

I don’t know, but seeing several in a row like that isn’t normal around here.

One makes a sharp turn into our parking lot and I gasp with fright.

“Why are they stopping?”

She looks at me with wide panicked eyes and seeing her nervous makes me even more scared.

Still looking out the window, a man steps out of one of the SUVs, he’s wearing black suit pants and a button-up shirt with a gun holster.

“That’s definitely a cop or something,” Dime mutters.

“Just act normal, get behind the counter,” I tell her, turning around and rushing to grab a wet rag to wipe tables.

My phone buzzes in my pants and a spark of nerves combust in my chest. I know it’s them wondering where the drugs are. Why I haven’t given them better information and where the Kings are now. Pulling over on the shoulder of the road, I tug out my phone, needing to tell them about the Mad Doggs now. Bear doesn’t get far before noticing that I pulled over and stops himself, using his feet he backs himself and his bike back up toward me.

Dialing quickly, B answers on the first ring.

“The tracks were clean there wasn’t anything there, Lennox!” His voice as tight as a rope, he’s pissed and humiliated that he’s wasted the manpower on raiding the tracks.

Hell, the club probably saw them come through town getting to the fucking tracks.

“Yeah, I’ve been looking for shit on the club and I can’t give you anything except that the Mad Doggs have the drugs.”

“You’re sure?”

“Positive.”

The line goes quiet.

“Do you think you can get the Kings to buy it? Try and push them?”

My chest tightens. I knew this fucker would ask me to instigate the Kings to buy. He’ll do anything to bring them down just to make his case. He’s a smug little mole that has no morals or values. The job is his life.

Sighing, Bear now caught up to me. I look at him when answering.

“I’ve tried. They won’t budge. They’re just a motorcycle enthusiast club, man.”

“Yeah right,” he scoffs, knowing damn well they’re not. They’ve got too many tips, snapshots, and bugs running back to tell them what the Kings are doing.

My heart begins to pound in my chest and the tension in the air thickens. It’s as if he knows I’ve flipped on him but won’t say it.

“Where are you right now, Sharp?” His voice low and accusing.

Ending the conversation, I look to the tree line and throw the phone. I’m done. Fuck him and fuck them. I have been their fucking puppet for years and it never made me happy. I don’t know what I was working for but it somehow all led to here right now and I’m stepping over the line of blue to outlaw.

This King is no longer their slave.
