Boots thudding against the floor, I pass Ruin who is standing at the pool table.

“How’s the ink healing?” He points to my back.

“Starting to peel a little,” I tell him and raise up my cut and shirt to show him.

He detailed the crow on my back making its face have half a skull. The art showing two sides to every living thing.

“Looks good,” he approves and I let my shirt down, making sure to cover my gun which is completely illegal to have.

North got it for me, numbers are scratched off. Heading inside to church, there’s a rocker sitting on the table.

“What’s this?” My eyes pop to Chaos, and suddenly the whole room floods with the brothers.

“Welcome to the club, brother,” North says from behind me and gives my shoulder a tight grasp.

“You’ve done everything we’ve asked the last few months and have really shown this club we need you,” Chaos continues.

“Yeah, it’s pretty fucking awesome to know how a cop thinks.” North chuckles, his ass perched on the side of the church table.

I guess I am the eyes on the inside for the guys. I know what highway patrol looks for, how cops interrogate, and the whole nine yards. I turned in my badge shortly after the bullet was dug from my leg and stitched up. I personally delivered it to Brinker’s house and told him to hang on to it. All the brothers came with me, standing behind me as I stood on his doorstep, his wife right behind him in a robe with a scared expression. Since then I haven’t heard anything about charges, or a word from Brinker. Not yet anyway but if he comes knocking, me and the boys will be here to answer.

Rubbing the back of my neck anxiously, I pick the rocker up off the table. My index finger and thumb sliding across the silky material. A sense of pride fills my chest as I stare down at its stitching. All the medals and awards I’ve won my whole life but this right here makes me feel more accomplished than anything. The guys begin to banter and talk, and I’m stuck in a daze looking down at it, wishing my father was here with me right now. Would he be proud? Would he be in this club?

“CAWW.”

My head snaps up, finding a black crow sitting just outside the window on my motorcycle. Patch in my hand, I round the table and look out the window at the crow. I used to think the crow was a sign of death but what if it was my father this whole time watching over me? All those times my adoptive parents dragged me to church, the preacher went on about guardian angels and how our loved ones never actually leave us, so why couldn’t the damn bird be my father? Like he said before he died, he’d make sure he got me where I needed to be.

“Crow, you want a beer?” The sound of Bear’s voice has me looking over my shoulder at him.

“Yeah, sure,” I answer before looking back out the window and finding the crow gone.

Taking a sharp breath, I head into the main room to get that beer.

“So, party tonight? Call Asia over to treat the new brother?” Mako asks, grabbing a cue stick.

I freeze, that’s right. I have a promise to collect.

Bear hands me a beer, and I hold my hand out to him.

“Hold that beer for a second.” He looks at me in confusion, and I just smile as I back out of the club, making sure to grab something I’ve been keeping for a couple weeks before heading down the driveway and across the street to Latte Da.

Inside it’s empty as usual. Dime comes and goes but is wanting to attend college somewhere close by, so she’s been out house hunting. I find Maybelline on the love seat with a book in her hand. She’s so lost in the book she doesn’t even notice me until I snatch the book from her hands.

Her eyes widen and her mouth opens to protest but I push my finger to her mouth to shut her up.

“Be my ol’ lady,” I tell her, not ask.

She sits up with a big grin on her face.

“You got patched in?” Excitement in her voice. She used to be scared of the club but she’s really come around to seeing them as a lot of big brothers. Besides, she knows by now that I won’t let anything happen to her. Nothing. She’s my little meek mouse and I love her that way.

“Just say yes,” I push her, wanting her to just say yes. I need her to seal the deal.

She smiles, her hands in her lap like the lady she is.

“Yes, of course I will.”

Grabbing her by the hips, I pull her ass to the edge of the seat and underneath me. Kissing her, she moans into my mouth. My hands grope at the tie behind her neck, letting the top of her dress fall to her stomach, and I pull the thing I’ve been holding for a few weeks from the floor and place it on her. She gasps, pushing her arms through the holes of the leather cut.
