The Alpha's Nanny

“Then you’ve never been truly tested.”

She opened up a sterile wipe. “I have been tested. I didn’t fight any of your men when they came for me. Nor do I fight now. I’ve never harmed your baby.”

“She’s a baby.”

“So, from what you’ve told me, you wouldn’t hesitate to kill one of our own.” She started to wipe up the blood. “We’re going to need to take you to the hospital.”

“No need. Wipe them, bandage them, and I can be on my way. They will heal within the day.”

“That’s not possible.”

“Neither is a man turning into a wolf but guess what, it happens.”

“How is it possible for us to kill you then?” she asked. “If you have this superhuman ability to heal.”

“We can still be killed. Some injuries left untreated can become infected and like humans, we die from blood loss.”

She began to cover each bullet hole. There were six in total.

On the final one, it was a relief to be able to stop touching him. Being close to him, it was … difficult.

Her body felt overheated. Her nipples hard. There was a tightening in her core.

“All done,” she said.

Putting the medical kit away in the box, she got to her feet and was about to leave.

Rocko grabbed her arm and before she knew what was happening, she was pressed against the fridge with a hand around her throat. He didn’t tighten to the point of her losing air, but the threat of what he could do hung heavy in the air.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

In one hand, she held the first-aid kit. With the other, she gripped his wrist, touching him. Her body was hot. Between her thighs was a slickness she wasn’t used to and it unnerved her.

“If you ever tell anyone about what we discussed here, it will be the end for you, do you understand?”

“I do. You don’t need to do this. There is no one for me to talk to. I’m all on my own. There’s only Daphne.”

His thumb rested against her neck, right over her pulse.

She didn’t know why, but he started to stroke her. He tilted her head back and he was so close. Was he going to kiss her?

She licked her lips, not with the intention of him watching her, but it was there, lurking.

She waited. Expected. Nothing. He pulled away and she watched him go.

The heat in her body remained. Rather than wait around for him to return, she took the first-aid kit back to the bathroom. Only, she didn’t leave immediately.

Grabbing the edge of the sink, she looked up into her reflection.

Her cheeks were flushed. The shirt she wore didn’t hide the evidence of her puckered nipples. She was on fire and there was no mistaking why. She was aroused by him.

Taking a deep breath, she ran some cold water and splashed her face.

You have to get a grip. There’s no way this is ever going to be anything for either of you.

With the cold water covering her face and neck, she looked back at her reflection. It was just typical and her luck. The first guy she had any real feelings about happened to be the alpha of a pack who’d hunted her down, and now she was at his mercy.

Shaking her head, she left the bathroom and quickly checked the house for any sign of him.

Nothing. He was gone.

Rather than be happy about that, she was incredibly sad. Living in his home all the time with only Daphne for company, she couldn’t help but feel incredibly lonely.

Her only compensation was going outside. There was nothing else in her life.

She walked upstairs and rather than go to her room, she went to Daphne’s. To the only real connection she had with another person.

Sitting in the rocking chair, she lifted up the pillow she used to help feed her, and sat, watching the baby. Daphne slept soundly. Nothing seemed to disturb her.

Rocko was a mystery. One moment he looked like he wanted to kill her. In the next, she was sure he wanted to kiss her or do other things.

She’d been a virgin all of her life but that didn’t mean she was a fool or blind to what sex was. Men talked. Women talked. There were books and movies and everything in between.

What would it be like to actually have a man, to belong to him?

It wouldn’t ever happen for her. This was her life now.

Romance was the thing of the past. She could only focus on the future and not in the hope of fairytale endings.

Chapter Three

“They also have a camp not too far from here,” Brian said.

Rocko looked at the six humans he’d killed, their bodies already decaying. The scent of death hung heavy in the air. The pain from the bullet wounds was already a distant memory, but for these men, their broken necks couldn’t be saved.
