Any Day Now (SWAT Generation 2.0 8)
Amelia leaned forward and pushed all the plates away, a contented sigh leaving her throat.
Which was when the rest of the table started to reach for the appetizers.
Everybody but me.
While her family was busy eating and listening to Kirk speak, I was focused on her.
Sure, I still heard Kirk in the background, but I studied Amelia’s face at the same time.
The way when she was interested in something someone had to say, her eyes would go laser-focused on her target.
How her lips were tipped up just a little bit, showing her obvious attention to what Kirk was saying about Rogan.
“Anyway, so the time has finally come for this movie to be released and Rogan gets upset. The hacker goes by the name of HuntHack and he’s the consultant for this film. Hunt is working with this guy, and Hunt is grabbing food with Rogan. They’re out at this table that’s set up for the film crew when a girl notices Hunt and starts talking to him. But, apparently, Rogan’s been trying to ask this girl out on a date for weeks and isn’t having any luck. Hunt, having no idea about any of that, talks to this girl about the sandwiches they both chose, and how it was odd that they both liked these types of sandwiches. And how they wonder what else the other likes that’s also considered weird. That’s it. Hunt eats his food and an hour later he’s being escorted out by security. All mention of him and his company that he’s trying to start up are wiped from the movie. They threaten him with legal action, toss a not so fat check his way, and tell him to get lost. Hunt didn’t even have any idea what it was that set them off until a couple of weeks later when he ran into that girl again and she told him her suspicions. Apparently when you piss off Rogan Germain, bad things happen to you.”
Amelia’s face forms into a smile. “I should find this Hunt and ask him if he wants to help me with Rogan.”
Her exuberance causes one of her curls to fall over my hand that’s resting on the back of her seat, and I turn my hand over to curl the strand around my finger.
“I’m sure he’d help you.” Kirk shrugged. “If you could find him.”
Amelia smiled then, the kind of smile that had enough power to knock you straight off your feet.
“Obviously you haven’t met my family yet, have you, Kirk?” Amelia replied sweetly.Chapter 15
Everything’s a dildo if you’re brave enough.

“Dispatch, this is Unit 74. I’m taking lunch,” I said into the mic at my shoulder.
“10-4, Unit 74.”
I pulled the keys out of my pocket and left the cruiser, studying my duplex with a curious eye.
The last few days had been quite exciting for Amelia. Yesterday with her place burning down being one of them.
After lunch, we’d all gone to inspect the damage, and I winced just thinking about the house and her Chevelle.
Though, the Chevelle inwardly was fine. Outwardly it looked to be scorched. At least on the left front side where it was closest to the fire.
Firefighters had been able to control the blaze well enough that the car had only suffered minimal cosmetic damage—with a new paint job and a thorough cleaning, it’d likely be just fine.
But still, that car was absolutely beautiful.
It hurt to see the damage.
Amelia, out of all of her things that had burned, had been the most bothered by her car.
Which I learned had special meaning to her thanks to her getting it from her brother.
That night when we’d gotten home after a full day of replenishing her needs—clothes, shoes, toiletries, electronics, and anything else she thought she’d need—we’d fallen exhausted into the bed.
I hadn’t even had the energy to kiss her goodnight.
And since I’d had to work the early shift the next day, I’d left quietly that next morning without waking her since she didn’t have school at all or work to get to until later this afternoon.
It was now four hours into my shift and I was starving.
I needed something to eat hours ago, but like the dumbass I was, I’d forgotten to set an alarm this morning and all I’d had time to do once I did wake up was get ready to leave and drive to work.
This particular moment was the first time I’d had a chance for a break since I’d walked in the door of the department.
Today I’d got suckered into crowd control at the fuckin’ movie scene that was being filmed in downtown Kilgore, and I couldn’t have been more annoyed with it all.
I was still very, very pissed off that Rogan was here causing trouble.
What was worse, I really needed to talk to Amelia about what I’d learned today.
