“Another one bites the dust.” He laughs like it’s humorous. “I get it, Martín, but deal with it quickly because my sister’s beautiful and I won’t stop her from seeing anyone else.”

“I’m going to kick your ass.”

He’s laughing at me. “Look, I got a fucking hangover with a killer headache, but keep us informed. I’ll be down there in a heartbeat if you don’t. Understood?”

“Yes. Thank you.”

“Thank you for doing the right thing. Sometimes we have to let the women we love leave if it’s for the best.”

“I will be back for her.”

He whispers, “I know,” as if he’s telling himself that.

The call ends, and I toss Indy the phone. “Get what you need on this break-in of my security system. If it’s the Amicis, I’m going to bury every last one of them.”

“I’ll be back down in a while.” I leave to grab my laptop from my suite. I have a lot of plans to make for our future.

I need to get to my queen, but just as I reach the door, it explodes, sending me back into the wall. Darkness takes over and I whisper, “I love you, Roxanne.”Chapter 6RoxieI slip two fingers between my legs hoping to recreate the feeling of Emiliano, but nothing compares even in the slightest way. I pump them inside, imagining his cock plundering my pussy, but I just can’t make myself come. It’s been a week since we left Vegas, and Emiliano hasn’t tried to contact me once. I climb out of my beautiful and normally comfortable bed to shower. It’s New Year’s Eve, and the Riders are going to get together for a celebration at Panhandles. I’m working behind the bar, so I have the rest of the day to kill before getting ready.

I stare at my laptop, wanting to check the news, but I’m also afraid to find out something happened to him. What if he had an accident and died? What if he played me and married someone else? A part of me finds that so unbearable because we made love and he kept insisting on putting his baby in me, which scares me even more. “What if I’m pregnant?” I sigh, popping open the laptop to get this over with. It boots up, and I Google the hotel. After twenty minutes of reading, I find an article about a fire at the hotel the day I left. Shit. He could be dead. I type in his name, but nothing comes up about him being injured or killed.

So maybe he’s too busy to get back to me. After all, a fire could cause so much damage that he’s working nonstop. I tell myself that lie and go downstairs to check on my brother.

“Hey, bro,” I say, entering the kitchen and reaching for a coffee mug off the cute rack I bought.

“Morning, Rox,” he grumbles, reading something on his phone. He’s been acting weird since he let the woman of his dreams slip out of his life, but he’s a fool. Then again, maybe it’s for the best that he stays away from her if he doesn’t feel that strongly about her.

“Morning!”

“You seem upbeat.” Good. I’m doing a great job of hiding it.

“Thanks. It’s the last day of a rough year. I’m thinking about my plans for the future.”

“A restaurant? You know we’d love it.” Of course they would. Food options in this bitch suck. We have a diner, a café, a bakery, and a pizza place. We need more options. Hell, I’ve considered stealing some of Cowboy’s cattle and making my own steak and eggs diner, but the one we do have is rather good, I guess.

“Nah, I’m not sure how long I plan to stay in town.”

He cocks his brow and unceremoniously drops his phone on the counter, bumping his coffee cup. I grab a paper towel and wipe up the spilled coffee before it makes a ring on the countertop. He stops my movement and asks, “What? Are you going back home?”

I give off a hysterical scoff and step back out of his reach to toss the towel in the trash. “No way in hell. I love Mom and Dad. Hell, I even love the city, but I’m not sure I can deal with the winters. I moved to Texas thinking I’d get a reprieve here, but nope. You all had to set up shop in a place where it can get fucking cold.”

“It’s not Chicago cold, though.”

“You got me there, but that doesn’t mean I like it,” I grumble, blowing on my steaming hot coffee. It smells so good that I can’t even wait for it to cool off.

“So what are your plans, then?”

That’s the million-dollar question. I want to go find Emiliano and ring his neck and ask him why he didn’t keep his promise. Then again, I want to run away from all the sunshine and flowers that I’m seeing all around me. “I don’t know yet, but I’m feeling restless.”
