Counterfeit Love

And the bravest thing I had done in my life was fall in love with Finch, and accept his love in turn.

"Hey, I have a present for you," Finch declared, pulling away so that I could turn to face him, watch as he pulled a lollipop out of his pocket, unwrapping it, sticking it between his lips.

"If it is another hideous chair, you can just drive it right on down to the thrift store," I informed him, not sure our house could hold another of his awful finds.

"It's not a chair, doll," he promised. "It's much better," he added, leading me around the building with him, stopping right in front of his truck, reaching up to pull down the tailgate.

"Oh, good God," I hissed, looking up at this new monstrosity.

It wasn't a chair.

Oh, no.

It was a couch.

Shaped, I kid you not, like a giant trout.

A trout.

"You keep saying you need a new reading spot in our bedroom," he reminded me, beaming, incredibly pleased with himself.

As well he should be.

Because I had been sure there was no topping the fire-engine-red lobster chair he'd hauled home for my last birthday.

So, yeah, this was an impressive find.

And he knew it.

"You're lucky I love you," I declared, shaking my head.

I did, too.

With absolutely everything in me.

"Yeah, dollface, I really am," he agreed.Writing Playlist"Sullen Girl" - Fiona Apple
