At this Russet can’t help but laugh. Neither can I.

“What’s so funny?” Mom asks, slicing the pumpkin pie.

“Nothing, Mom,” I say. “This looks just perfect. We all just have so much to be grateful for.”One Year Later…RussetI expected Lindy’s house to be a little louder this Thanksgiving, but Grace has been sleeping for nearly two hours, tucked in a sling against my chest.

“This pie looks amazing, Mom,” Grayson says, his hand on the small of Johanna’s back — his new girlfriend.

“Thanks sweetie,” Lindy says as she slices it.

“Is there any whipped cream?” Autumn asks, walking into the kitchen and eyeing the pies.

“Oh shoot,” Lindy says. “I forgot for the second year in a row.”

“I can go get it,” I say. “It’s no biggie.”

“You sure?” Lindy asks and I nod.

“Not a problem,” I say, just as Grace begins to cry.

“Good timing,” Autumn says, reaching for our daughter. “She’s probably hungry.”

Autumn follows me to the living room and eases our little pumpkin out of this sling. “You know, Russet,” Autumn says. “I really don’t need dessert tonight.”

“Why not?” I ask, reaching for my keys and wallet. I am so grateful to be home for the holidays and not deployed. “You are the one who asked for the whipped cream.”

“I know,” my wife says with a smile. “But actually I’m pretty full.”

I frown, knowing Autumn has an appetite since she’s nursing around the clock. “What aren’t you saying?”

She grins, leaning in to whisper. “I’m saying you already gave me a second serving of baby gravy.”

My eyes widen. “Are you saying?…”

She laughs, cradling Grace, her eyes bright with love. “We’re pregnant again,” she says. “There is no end to our blessings.”

She’s right, of course. There isn’t.

And I pull my wife to me, our sweet little girl between us, and I kiss her lips. Forget the gravy, my girl is as sweet as pie.
