I walk over to her, pulling her into my side and holding her close. I do that partly to hide her tits, but also just because I want her in my arms.

Violet curls into me, giving me a squeeze. “I’ll just go and change,” she murmurs. “Parker, Ida Sue, good to see you again.”

“You too, Violet. Sorry we showed up unannounced. I tried to tell Parker, but you know how men are,” Ida Sue says with a grin.

“It’s fine. I’ll just go and change,” Violet laughs. She kisses my cheek and I reluctantly let her go.

“Hurry back, Angel,” I murmur against her ear. It’s lame as fuck, but I need her with me. I don’t want to talk to Parker. I sure as hell don’t want to do it with Ida Sue and whoever else is here with him.

“You got it,” she whispers and then tries to leave the room as inconspicuously as possible. She mostly fails. When you look like Violet and are wearing as few clothes as she is, you’re going to be noticed.

I look up to see Ida Sue staring at me, and I get the feeling she’s watching me and making notes. Sure enough, however, Parker and his buddy are checking out my girl.

“Eyes off my girlfriend assholes,” I mutter and Ida Sue practically cackles.

“I have to admit, Mikey—Can I call you Mikey?”

“Uh…”

“I have to admit that I didn’t know if I liked you based on our first meeting, but you’re growing on me. You remind me of my boy Blue,” Ida Sue says, sitting down at the bar.

“Blue? Don’t you already have a son named Green? You have an affair with the owner of Crayola or something?”

“Like I haven’t heard that one a million times. You should try a little harder, Mikey. Of course, you’re young. You’re bound to improve with age,” she responds, shaking her head.

“I would have called, but I figured you’d just leave before we could talk if I gave you warning,” Parker says dryly.

“So, you thought bringing an audience to our family powwow was the route to go?” I complain, leaning against the cabinets across from the bar. It’s a very tiny, rundown bar, but somehow Ida Sue, Parker and his buddy all find a way to crowd around it. This really is a shit apartment. I’m going to have to find us something better. First, I figure I better find a damn job…

“Well, Cyrus here is headed to Montana, so I gave him a ride. We’re going to drop him off at the airport. He got traded and is going to play for the Montana Moose.”

I frown. “Never heard of them,” I say with a shrug.

“Neither has anyone else. Not that I give a damn. It’s a paycheck doin’ what I love,” Cyrus says. “I’m just hoping I don’t freeze my balls off in the process. I don’t know why I couldn’t have been traded somewhere in Florida, or hell even Arizona.”

“You’re going to love Montana. You just make sure you stop by and see my cousin’s girl, Carol. She’ll set you up in Mistletoe. She’s a good girl, Carol. Plus, she might put a smile on your grouchy mug. It would really be good if you smiled a little you know, Cyrus.”

“I smile,” he mutters.

“Mostly when you’re plowing your fist into an umpire’s face,” Parker laughs. “That’s why they traded your ass to begin with. If you had a better attitude you’d be playing in the pros.”

“Like I want to play with a bunch of pussies who are more interested in the camera getting the right angle on their close-up shots than what their batting average is,” Cyrus grumbles.

Violet comes back out and walks over to me. I immediately wrap my arm around her stomach and pull her back against me.

“Oh, Carol’s going to have such fun with you. I almost wish I could be around to see it, big guy,” Ida Sue says, and she sounds practically giddy.

“Maybe Ida Sue and Cyrus should wait outside until we have this out.” I don’t really want to talk about this shit, but I really would rather not talk about it in front of people I don’t know.

“I did think about going and meeting Violet’s Rooster. What do you think? Care to introduce an old lady?”

“You’re not old,” Violet laughs. “And I could, but I don’t think Rooster is really looking for a woman in his life,” she adds, carefully.

“Oh please,” Ida Sue laughs. “My Jansen would spank my butt for even thinking about another man. Now, while I admit that sounds like fun, I wouldn’t dream of replacing my cowboy. We’ve grown on each other over the years. I have to tell you though he is fun to tease. You should see how upset he gets when I flirt with my niece’s husband, Titan.”
