Logan kisses me until my mind blanks and all I can think about is him.

I gently bite the bottom of his lip, tugging it as he finally pulls away. I don’t want to let go just yet, but I do. That was probably the first and last time we’re going to do that. I should have stopped it earlier but we were already guilty so why not take advantage and make it last a little longer?

I’m breathing heavily with my toes curled in my shoes as he presses his forehead against mine, his cowboy hat raising in the air.

Our eyes are locked together as we grip each other like neither of us wants this moment to end. I know I don’t.

“Your mate is okay with you kissing other girls like that?”

“Not other girls.” I moan when I feel his hot sugary breath tickle my lips. “Just you.”

It takes everything I have to lean back from him and drop my arms. “I doubt that. We haven’t even met. Oh my God! Is she here on the ranch?!”

I jerk away from him as my hand flies to my mouth. What the hell was I doing? She’s probably on the ranch right now. She could have walked in and seen us!

“I’m sorry,” I say as I head for the door. “I have to go!”

“Brooklyn!” Logan calls out as I run outside, feeling more flustered than ever. “It’s not what you think.”

“I think you’re an asshole!” I shout back.

Even though cheating on his mate is a majorly asshole thing to do, I still feel guilty for calling him one. He’s been nothing but sweet, gentle, and charming with me.

He follows me all the way to my car. I’m so rattled at my first kiss that was so wrong but felt so right, that I drop my keys in the dirt.

Logan is faster than me and swoops down and grabs them. He holds them out of my reach when I try to take them back.

“Can I have my keys?” I snap.

“You’re coming back tomorrow, right?”

My heart is pounding as I look at him. Why does he have to be so gorgeous? This would be much easier if he wasn’t so alluring and if I wasn’t being drawn to him in every way possible.

“You’re coming back tomorrow?”

Every moral and shred of dignity I have in my body is screaming at me to say no, but everything else is begging me to say yes. For whatever reason, I’m being drawn to this man in an irresistible way and I can’t say no. I physically can’t.

“Fine.”

He holds the keys a little higher.

“Yes. I’ll come back.”

“You’re mine tomorrow, Brooklyn,” he says as he lowers the keys with a devastating grin. “You’re all mine.”

I snatch the keys out of his hand and fumble with them as I try to get into my car. My hands are shaking as I try to slide my key into the keyhole. This man has dialed every nerve in my body into overdrive.

He steps back and never takes his eyes off me as I start the car and throw it into drive.

I’d like to think that I’m not coming back since I have all the information that Rhys required, but deep down, I know that’s not true.

I’m coming back.

First thing in the morning.Rhys is on me as soon as I pull into the ranch. “Who are they?” he barks as I get out of the car.

“I don’t know,” I say with an innocent shrug. “I talked to a girl named Zoe. She offered me a job in the greenhouse.”

He sneers at me as he squeezes his hand into a fist by his side. “You didn’t get the shifters’ names?”

“No, but I’m going back tomorrow.”

“I didn’t want you to go back tomorrow,” he says with his voice rising. “I wanted the information now. For tonight.”

“What do you want from me?” I ask with my hands in the air. “I got the job, didn’t I?”

“What kind of animal shifters are they?”

“Rhys, will you back off? What do you want me to do? Walk into some stranger’s ranch and start demanding all of their most personal information? They would have thrown me out on my ass!”

He’s seething as he follows me to the house—a five-bedroom farmhouse with a sprawling porch. I would think it was a gorgeous house if I didn’t know Rhys lived inside. That taints everything for me.

The sound of his buddies drinking, laughing, and playing heavy metal music comes over from the barn in the distance. Thankfully, they’re living in there while they’re staying with us.

I grit my teeth when I see Oliver sitting with them. He’s got a beer in his hand.

“He’s sixteen!” I say as I whip my head around and glare at Rhys. “Get that beer away from him!”

“He’s fine,” he says with a dismissive wave of his hand. “Shifters absorb alcohol like it’s nothing.”
