Her whole body shook as the pleasure washed over her, and even the air around them seemed soft and warm, cocooning them in intimacy.

“I don’t want you to think about anything but me,” he said as he lifted her up again and set her on the conference table. His hands went to the buckle of his belt.

She watched as he freed himself, protected her by rolling a condom on. He was so beautiful. Her guy.

She wouldn’t be able to think about anything but him from now on. Certainly not in this room. This was the room where she fought to stay awake while she backed up Armie as he fought over budget projections.

Now every time she sat in this room, she would see Zep as he gathered her into his arms, as he connected them in the most intimate way possible.

She held on to him as he thrust inside, pushing her again to find that peak he seemed to take her to so often. He leaned over and kissed her, connecting them in every way he could.

This. This was what she would miss. This wild connection. When she was with him, she felt more alive than she did when she was alone or with anyone else.

The orgasm rolled over her even as she felt him shudder in her arms.

He fell forward, giving him her weight. She loved this moment, the one where he sighed and laid his head against hers.

“Better?”

She felt a chuckle go through her. “Yeah.”

He kissed her cheek. “I’m glad because this was a good day for me. Did I thank you for getting me a whole department?”

She rubbed her cheek against his. If the somewhat awkward position was bothering him, he didn’t show it. “You might curse me one day when you’re sitting in this room taking meeting after meeting. But, Zep, you’re going to be great.”

He kissed her and the world faded away all over again. Whatever would come, she would face it.

Tomorrow.chapter twelve“So a bunch of teens were trying to make a horror movie and they thought it was a good idea to hide in people’s bushes to get shots of them being scared?” Major asked as he set his stuff down on the desk next to hers.

It was time for shift change. Normally Roxie would hang out for at least an hour or so, but this afternoon she was anxious to get home. Anxious to get through the evening because, after tonight, she might be able to breathe again.

“Has the story made it around town already?”

“Yeah, it was all my dad could talk about when I visited him today,” Major replied, his handsome face set in curious lines.

She wished she could be as focused as Major’s dad. All she seemed to be able to think about was Zep. She hadn’t been able to get him out of her head all day. It hadn’t helped that he’d come in at lunchtime with BLT sandwiches and fries from Dixie’s. He’d sat with her and eaten and talked about how his morning had gone. He and Daisy had been working on training in the backyard while Sunny had watched through the window.

“That’s the long and short of it,” she replied. They stood in the big room of the station house. Armie’s office was off to the left, and the rest of the department all had desks dotting the office space. Zep was currently closed off in the conference room filling out forms on the laptop she’d given him. Despite Armie’s status as a small-town sheriff, he did not stint on the paperwork.

She’d done her own when she’d gotten in this morning, but Zep was just learning the joys of filing reports.

“This is Ashlyn Travers?” Major pulled out his chair. “Karen’s kid? I saw her last week up at the nursing home where Karen works. She had a camera out. I wonder if the residents know they might be movie stars soon.”

“I don’t think she understands the idea of release forms. Nor does she understand trespassing laws and plain old consequences.”

“And she didn’t think about the fact that she could get shot?” Major sat at his desk, his feet up on the edge as though he was ready for a quiet second shift.

“I’m pretty sure she thought it would make the movie better.”

Major shook his head. “Did Armie’s head explode when he heard about this?”

Roxie had to chuckle. “From what I can tell, he’s still yelling. He started as we left the hall last night, and he told me he was meeting with the AV teacher at the high school this afternoon. Those kids might never pick up a camera again. Or maybe they will since I heard a couple of people asking when the film would be out and were they in it.”

That brought a big smile to Major’s face. “It was all the people at the assisted living facility could talk about. If she did manage to make a movie, it would be the biggest thing to hit this town in a long time.”
